Guest guest
Steve, *Reposting this with corrected heading* Usually the spot where the parotid glands empty into the mouth (on each side of inside cheek approximately where your teeth meet) gets slightly swollen and tender. This is a tiny little point and could even be mistaken for a little sore in your mouth, and this is what I thought until it was pointed out to me. Then one time I was getting over the flu, and had dosed quite a bit with coconut oil in hot tea, when I noticed my submandibular glands were swollen. These are located directly under the jaw on each side of the throat. Had me worried until I realized that it was probably caused by the coconut oil. They would swell up right after I would eat something and this effect would last for several minutes. After a few days it stopped happening. Sometimes when I shower and put my head back to rinse my hair I feel a tightening in my neck around these glands. Doesn't hurt, just isn't right, though. I don't use a large amount of the oil (not near the 3 tbsp. recommended) but I use it regularly in cooking and skin care. What you said you felt in your neck when yawning sounds very similar. It tightens, or cramps, for a few seconds and then relaxes. My theory is that I must have some sort of gunk or impurities (maybe stones) in the salivary glands and the coconut oil is trying to clear them out. Haven't gotten the courage together to take a larger amount daily. Would it flush them out or make it worse? Don't know. -Patty > > Hi Patty, > This the other day I was noticing that when I yawned the glands or > whatever is directly under my jaw was almost cramping up.
