hello and good evening (well at least when I'm writing this message)

I'm a undergradute student reaserching on coconut oil or more

specificly " utilizing waste coconut from VCO production for producing

Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (or more commonly Biodiesel/Cocodiesel)

and the million dollar question is:

Why's my coconut oil extracted from the waste hash higher acid number

than the normal coconut oil? I used n-hexane to extract the oil

does anyone has the answer(s)?

thanx a lot

There is a possibility that you are unable to separate out hexane properly, or

during the process some of the lower fractions of fatty acids (oils) are getting

removed with hexane, or you may not be digesting the sample properly for the

VFA number. Also refined commercial coconut oil has lower volatile acid number

than the VCO.
