Guest guest
> Hi ! Thank you for that very interesting story. I have no idea what would cause such a drastic difference between the two coconut oils. Perplexing indeed! We've been experimenting with different COs too. For all of our cooking I use expeller pressed from Eco Viva. Then I experiment with others for eating straight off the spoon, making fudge and body and hair care. Once I ordered a 54oz. tub from Amazon, it was pleasant tasting but kind of gritty. When I ran out of that, I spent $16!!! on 16 oz. of Nutiva from my HFS. It was so smooth and creamy and yummy - nothing like the tub I'd bought from Amazon. Last week I just received a gallon from Tropical Traditions and it has a very strong, smoky or roasted flavor, but it's nice and smooth. With all these brands, I have not noticed a difference in how I feel, jut how it feels and tastes in my mouth. I wonder if there is some variation in some of the acids that are affecting you? I'm about to order a gallon of centrifuged CO from WFN through my buying club. I know, this will put my stock of CO at about 2.5 gallons in my inventory, but I figure we'll go through it. I'm also going to order a gallon of the red palm oil. > I had weight loss 5 weeks in a row at weigh in. Are you doing Weight Watchers? > Then I was running low on the Nutiva brand I'd say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So many choices of VCO make it difficult though. > I started feeling more discomfort in that left ankle again, Last month, the foot doc told me I had a Morton's Neuroma on my foot - which is a swollen nerve with swollen tissue at the ball of the foot in between toes. It feels like a balled up sock and can be painful when I'm on my feet for extended periods. I started using DMSO via roll-on - just at nights before bed - and have gotten fantastic results. The swelling has gone down considerably and it doesn't bother me near as much. The doc wanted to do cortisone injections and/or surgery. Pfft! I've also used DMSO on my lower back and knee where I had an ACL replacement in '03. Great stuff. -vanessa .... coconutty

So many choices of VCO make > it difficult though. Thinking there probably wasn't any difference in the nutritional end of the products, I chose to try the cheaper priced to get more for my money. But if I get better results from Nutiva, it WOULD BE worth every penny. This is only day 3 of getting Nutiva back into my system. So I am watching to see what happens. I probably shouldn't even mention anything yet, but was pretty excited to walk without extreme pain so soon. There still is some discomfort occasionally, but not as bad as this weekend. amazing! Guest guest
My suggestion, is that it could also be the food you ate. Try eating exactly the same food with the NUTIVA and the Traditional vco. Some foods can trigger arthritis/bursitis pains...one big culprit is liver. Guest guest
Back when I first began exploring Alternative Medicine, I tended to ignore personal testimonials and anecdotal evidence. I wanted to see scientific papers from double-blind experiments. However, the more I read, the more I saw flaws in my approach. Much of the " scientific " studies are funded (directly or indirectly) with funds coming from companies with a financial interest in proving the stuff they sell is superior, or proving that the competition is selling crap. But even if I had a way to discount the fraudulent and questionable studies, there are still many many things which just have never been adequately studied. Double blind studies cost money. Where does the $$ come from to pay for studies on products which cannot be patented? I began to realize that anecdotes told by ordinary people who experiment with diet and supplements, then shared on e-lists can be tested by other list members, and brought to the attention of those who are more knowledgeable. On some lists, the list owner is in contact with researchers and doctors in the field being scrutinized. On other lists, there are health professionals who comment on anecdotes and ask more questions. I have no idea why a particular brand of coconut oil would behave differently from other brands, but I strongly suspect the folks who make Nutiva coconut oil would love to hear more about this. Guest guest
I thought about writing to them, after I give this a bit more time to make sure it wasn't just a fluke, or by chance, my leg felt better. This is exactly how it was though when I first started eating more of the Nutiva. Within a couple days, the pain was almost gone, I would walk normal. Same thing happened when I started using it again this weekend, though didn't take as long a time. A good suggestion by , but I had the elbow pain all winter, then after using the Nutiva, it was gone. That hasn't come back. Same with the ankle problem, I really don't think food had much to do with it. I need to give this more time. If I was to start losing again, that would really be worth noting. I don't have the urge to graze today, which possibly could be from the coconut oil.
