Guest guest
Uh Oh...this is not good...I cannot tolerate a jump in B.P. Anyone else experience this kind of thing? Virginia -------------- Original message -------------- From: " Bonnie Cole " <bonnieview@...> Hello Everyone: The other day I bought a really good quality VCO that cost twice as much as the others, I have used. I've been reading about the various methods of making VCO and the website of Wildnerness Family Naturals said that their Centrifuged oil had the highest levels of Lauric and Caprylic Acids. Well this one isn't WFN but a real quality oil. About 3:00 pm I put some on a cracker, maybe 2 tsp. By 5:00 pm I wasn't feeling well and by 8:00 pm, thought I was coming down with the FLU. By midnight, it was all I could do, to get myself into bed and took some Colloidal Silver and a tablespoon to have for the morning when my stomach would be empty, in case it was the flu. I felt very tired with aching joints and muscles but could not sleep and was awake till 7:00 am. So that VCO caused symptoms for 16 hours. AND it did put my Blood Pressure up and my usual medication did not work at all. I don't have such a bad reaction with the cheaper oils that I've bought, so it MUST be the Lauric and Caprylic. So was that a HERX reaction? What does it mean? Thanks, Bonnie
Guest guest
I experienced a rise in blood pressure when I started taking VCO too. I have what is known as essential blood pressure which means it is not caused by diet or exercise or even weight (I am a yoga teacher and I teach 6 classes every week, garden, and I have good muscle tone, low body fat, I'm 55, and I sleep very well. I had to stop taking it although my husband is taking it still -- he has Hep C. I posted one of the websites for coconut oil information on here where it stated that hypertension was a contraindication for taking VCO. Somebody on this list suggested I take the coconut water in tetra-paks, but it is very high in sodium, the very component that adversely affects blood pressure. I would caution anybody taking VCO to monitor your blood pressure before starting a steady diet of it, or at least, test it every day. Also, make sure you don't have blood coagulation or clotting. High blood pressure and blood clots create strokes. Guest guest
Thanks for this Deb. So if essential blood pressure is not caused by diet, then you could use salt, right? What exactly causes this essential blood pressure to rise, if not these things you mentioned? Dr. Fife, insists that VCO does not raise BP and if it truely does, I would like to know the mechanism, by which this happens. Would anyone know this? Thanks, Bonnie Re: A weird VCO experience Duncan /Uh Oh I experienced a rise in blood pressure when I started taking VCO too. Guest guest
I guess some people may be extra sensitive to this problem but of all the people that I know that are using VCO, none have experienced a rise in BP. Guest guest
Bonnie, Here is the website stating that coconut oil is contraindicative for HBP. http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/coconut_oil_facts.html. I should clarify that I found this page AFTER I had already stopped taking it. My discontinuing coconut oil was as a result in the numbers. I had just started taking it about two weeks before I caught the pattern, and I was taking a teaspoon a day, intending to build up the dose from there. Its the diastolic numbers that seem to always go higher when it goes up, but sometimes both will go up accordingly, and vice versa. The only thing I know about 'essential HBP is that its thought to be passed through genetics, or, inherited. My father did have 3 heart attacks before his passing, but his diet was horrible too and he smoked. He was also using a lot of medications from a bad accident he'd had where his entire pelvic bone was crushed. Personally, I wondered how he survived any of the heart attacks. But, I don't want to go on record as trying to defeat the popularity of using coconut oil. I still give it to my husband. I cannot say why coconut oil can contribute to higher numbers in blood pressure -- all I can report is my own experience. Its something anyone should be aware of, regardless of the reason for using it. Hypertension is a serious condition. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie I couldn't get the link to work. Guest guest
I noted that the site in question did not produce a reference for the contention that high diastolic BP may be linked to coconut or MCT so I did a PubMed search and still found nothing on it. I think I smell a myth. The only way I can see it might apply is that the oil might help provoke Herx, a stressor, and any stressor can jack blood pressure. That of course would be a sign your therapy is working, and you can allow for the inconveniences during the therapy. Bonnie's running into this too, with what was it Bonnie, three of the best supplements? Guest guest
I have very reactive BP, yet I have had no effects to my BP from VCO. Also, a while after starting the VCO I started taking sea salt even though I am supposed to be on a low sodium diet. Before starting sea salt my blood tests had shown my sodium levels to be high and my potasium levels to be low. I did hold a little water from the sea salt initially, but my BP actually went down. So then I added (3) 99 mg tablets of potasium per day, and started using even more sea salt. I lost the excess water, my BP dropped even further, and my newest blood tests show that my blood sodium levels are lower. Surprize! Later, (after the newest blood test) I also almost totally eliminated sugar from my diet. The fact is that many sugary items also contain salt. Even though I did not think I had any edema at all, my fingers have gotton smaller. I am having one meal a day where I use liberal amounts of sea salt. Now that I am off sugar (and it's accompaning salt) I am considering adding even more sea salt to my diet. The days I do not use the salt I do not feel as good as the days I do. By the way, getting rid of the sugar did more for the way I feel than anything I have ever done (though I do think putting the whole package together will be the best for health). I think it is a matter of getting various things balanced, and healing my body. I am not expecting just one thing to be the magic bullet that does it all. Guest guest
, The reason the link wouldn't work before is because she put a period after html. I got it now.
