Yes, I have been feeding coconut oil to my husband's red tabby, Pumpkin. He was climbing into my lap at the table trying to steal it anyway, so I started putting half a teaspoon in his dinner. Have gradually increased the amount to 1 teaspoon. Almost immediately, we noticed a difference in odor -- his cat box used to smell awful whenever he used it, and now there's no odor at all. His breath has improved as well. A friend's cat got his tail caught in a door and she wasn't sure what to put on the wound (broken skin, bleeding, bruising) to keep it from getting infected. I had just read a description of coconut oil's topical use on serious cuts, and she happened to have some VCO in her cupboard, so she applied it generously. The wound healed fast, even though the cat kept trying to lick the oil off. My husband and I have tried 13 different brands of coconut oil from Brazil, Jamaica, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Hawaii. So far Pumpkin has gotten excited about all of them. Pumpkin and I think your cats will enjoy coconut oil. I haven't come across any information about coconut oil being harmful for cats; in fact, some feline nutrition experts recommend adding shredded unsweetened coconut to a cat's food. Guest guest
Carol, Rule #1: Cats are FINICKY, and I believe they are intuitively wise about diet. We know VCO is good for humans, dogs, and livestock... Your cats will most like benefit too. But ultimately, your cats will decide. If they eat it, that's most likely a good thing. A couple years ago, I started to mix a little crumble a littled (high fat) cheese into my dog's and cat's food. They love it! When I have tried to offer my cat mozerella (low fat) cheese, she wouldn't touch it. My pet also love butter (saturated fat). I believe that the animals love the cheese and butter because of the saturated fat content. --- " C. Carpenter " <ccarpenter15@...> wrote: > Has anyone tried coconut oil for cats? Guest guest
I have found that my cats like a sweet taste, but then they also like sour cream!! One likes peanut butter, but the others don't. I have 7. I really don't feed them much people food, but sometimes they just beg so appealingly!! LOL. A couple of them are crazy for chicken - I have to put them on the porch when I cook chicken so I can eat in peace. Two of them prefer beef - and they are mother and son. I thought that was interesting. Anyway, soon as I get some VCO I'm going to try them on it. The " fragrance " benefit pointed out by one of you cinched it for me!! :-) Thanks everyone for all this information. You're all the best! Carolsea Re: cats and VCO My cats like the coconut oil. Guest guest
Dear Pandora, I'm glad to know that your cats enjoy VCO. They must be smart cats. Guest guest
My older cat has lost some teeth and can't eat the hard food. She is constantly begging for soft food. she is 20. The VCO helps keep her full for longer since she can't eat the hard food anymore and her fur looks nicer. Another thing that helped is adding the unrefined mineral salt to her diet. She was looking pretty bad for a while, dull hair, her eyes were dull and weepy. I really thought the end was near for her. But the mineral salt cleared that right up, but her hunger was still endless. Coconut oil helped the hunger and fur. She looks so much better. My younger cat, I have not noticed too much difference since he is really already very healthy and vibrant looking. > > > > > > > > > > I got a sample of coconut oil from essential > > oils > > > > > YUCK!! > > > > > It had a burnt taste to it. Guest guest
awwww that is so wonderful!!! Amazing for her being 20 years old!! I need to look into that mineral salt, too. My older cats are only 9 or so years old, but they are quite tubby.... I'm hoping the VCO will help all of these things. Thanks for posting! Guest guest
Sue: YES, it is good for EVERYONE, animals included. Every night I rub some VCO on my dogs' teeth and they don't have bad breath anymore. Their coats are glistening. Bonnie Cats and VCO Can you feed cats VCO? I want to make some cat treats. I was thinking about substituting 1/2 of the butter with VCO. I thought I'd better ask first though. Thanks, Sue
Guest guest
Thanks for answering. I made them some treats with a mixture of VCO and Red Palm Oil. So far, they aren't eating them though. Except when I put it in their other food. It may take a little while. Sue > > Sue: > > YES, it is good for EVERYONE, animals included. Guest guest
Sue: My dogs have gotten used to the VCO taste but if I put it in their food, they wouldn't eat it. And until recently we had a Red Palm Oil that was very strong tasting (from Africa) and we hated it in food, unless the dish had a strong flavour to disguise it. But I recently received a SAMPLE of the Red Palm Oil that Wilderness Family Naturals is distributing and it has no taste whatsover, so I will be getting theirs from now on. My advice would be to just slip in a wee bit in the animals' mouth, rather than trying to get them to eat it in food. Bonnie Cats and VCO > > > Can you feed cats VCO? I want to make some cat treats. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Both my cats love VCO. I give it to them straight from a spoon and they lap it up. About a half to a whole teaspoon a day. Their coats are beautiful. I was hoping it might help them digest hairballs better but they still get them. Oh well.. Guest guest
Hi , I'm going to see if I can get them to eat it. They won't touch it when I put it on a dish. One of the cats is overweight and I was hoping some treats made with VCO would help him to lose weight. The store bought ones are what made him gain weight. They don't like the ones I made though. I'm going to try another recipe. > > Hi Sue, > > Both my cats love VCO. I give it to them straight from a spoon and > they lap it up. About a half to a whole teaspoon a day. Guest guest
Sue? One of the things I do with pet treats is add something to it they love--liver or kidneys. Since I fed my dogs raw, I just mixed a bunch of things I wanted them to have in the vitamix, soft froze it on an edged cookie sheet, scored it, let it hard freeze then gave them frozen treats about an inch square and quarter inch thick. No matter what healthy stuff I put in it that they hated (brewers yeast), the smell of the liver or kidney always made them just have to eat it anyway. They'd look at me sooooooo betrayed and happy at the same time. IF your cat won't eat a sliver of frozen liver, don't try my recipe. There are a few things more gross than raw liquid liver on a carpet but you don[t want to clean those up either. Saralou Sue wrote: > Hi , > > I'm going to see if I can get them to eat it. Guest guest
My cat likes it straight, but only if he can lick it from my fingers. If I try to give it to him on a spoon or a dish, he's not interested. Might be worth a try. Dawn Re: Cats and VCO Hi , I'm going to see if I can get them to eat it. Guest guest
What might help with Dog's gum disease is a round of antibiotics, brushing their teeth every day with a toothbrush and daily application of some VCO rubbed into their gums. Treated much like Gum Disease in people. You have to be aggressive. Bonnie Cats and VCO > > > Can you feed cats VCO? I want to make some cat treats.
