Danette --- just a thought, I have heard (and don't know it to be a fact) that

some insurance companies won't pay claims if your air bag is disconnected at the

time of an accident. Might want to call your company and see.

So while air bags can be downright dangerous and possibly deadly to short

people, they're afraid that if they DISCONNECT them and you're injured in an

accident they will be sued because they disconnected the airbags -- which

might have made a bad situation even worse if they'd been left on???

Sheesh...

I remember the discussion we had many months ago on this. Do we really

want to disconnect a safety device. Granted some have sent out alarmist

comments on this. I however as a mechanic for more than 25 years have given

much thought to this.

Is the WHEEL softer than the bag? Remember that the great concern with

airbags is children seated in front in rear facing seats (99 fatalities

since the late 80's). Co-incidentally more unbelted children are killed

every year. Perhaps a study of the non-existent LP data would dispel this

concern. I am staking my money on the airbag as providing some enhanced

protection rather than relying on belts that are designed for average sized

people.

I should know, 5 feets 9 inches of Jo Ann's husband here. She must be

protected at all costs and I consider an airbag much better than a wheel to

the ribs. Having seen several crashes I believe the ribs lose to the wheel

every time. Note the proximity of the wheel to the torso of the LP. Belts

are designed to stretch. Now calculate the stretch factor, reach of LP and

the probability we have it right.

Have your relatives send me the crash photos after the funeral on

disconnected airbag systems so I can verify the formula.
