I was baffled at first by WFN gallon tubs. I finally put the tub on

the floor, planted one foot atop the tub and leaned on it so it would

not move. Then I clamped a vice grip pliers onto the pull tab and

tugged until I could get the ring of plastic to come off the tub. It

would probably be easier if you had an assistant. One person could

sit on the tub while the other tugged on the tab with the vice grip

pliers.

I am NOT a strong woman, but I can open these gallon lids on WFN Tubs.

You take a box knife (blade for cutting open boxes) .

Along the edges of the lid are small rectangle indents. You slit the lid

from the bottom

edge into this rectangle box There are 8 places to do this. This makes it

easy to

then pry the lid off. Hope this helps. This is how to open 5 gallon lids

too with this

type of lid. I use to work in a restraunt and this is how we got those lids

off.

detergent (sear¹s brand)

Mine didn't have pull tabs. Just little dents sort of, on the lip of the

lid, with arrows pointing to them, and it says " to open, break here " .

Several of them spaced around the lid. Unfortunately, I could NOT

" break " them, and cutting them was extremely difficult, no matter what

tool I tried. Maybe I should have tried prying them up with a screwdriver.

I can't cut them. So I must be *very* weak, and in fact, I do have very

weak hands, fingers, wrists and elbows from tendon problems, so I have

no grip strength to speak of. I think I will order another gallon as

soon as I run low on coconut oil again, and see if my husband can cut

them with your method. Sounds like you have the tub sitting upside down

to do the cutting?

Use a box knife blade to slit that lid. makes opening it much easier. Slit

all 8 indentions, it then

pries off much easier.

For that type of lid I use a thick bladed hunting knife. I use the

knife like a chisel and use a hammer to cut thru the thin spots around

the rim.

actually my husband does the cutting. no its not upside down. you poke the

point of the box knife

(the blade is on a slat and comes to a point) and he then makes the slit

down to the edge of the lid.

I used to have to open 5 gallon buckets when I was

a painter. Sounds like the same kind of lid. I

would take a 1 " putty knife and put the corner in

the little rectangle then hit downward with a

hammer. The putty knife slit the plastic. After

I did all the little rectangles, the lid would

open fairly easily.
