Guest guest
Alobar, I am one of those addicted persons. I quit drinking in 1976 because for 3 1/2 months I had lost total control of my drinking. Later I became very addicted to sugar, and it is an addiction I am still struggling with because I go back to trying to *control it* instead of totally abstaining. I know I would have no problem becoming slim if I just stayed totally away from sugar. I have done it several times for at least a year at a time, and my weight loss was fantastic. Then I try a *little* and soon I find myself *totally* out of control. Stoppimg drinking was so much easier. It was easy not to keep the stuff at home, and I just totally stopped going to the bar. BUT, with sugar, it is at every social event there is. Actually it is EVERYWHERE! I can't even go to the bank, or to the grocery store without sugary goodies set out for the public. Now, I can easily refrain from keeping any of the stuff in my home, but the only way I could avoid socializing with others would be to become totally reclusive. Isolation is at least as destructive to a persons health as sugar, so I think that is out. But, I want to be able to do all the socializing without *falling* into my addiction to sugar. With the holidays my addiction is really out of control. I really relate with others here who have shared their carb addiction. I am one who does lose the craving if I stay off of the stuff, but when I see it I literally forget that I am trying to get off of it and stay off, and there I am feeding my face with the stuff. It is like the addiction literally takes over my mind and self control. The ways I have gotton off sugar before was to give up all socializing, but I became very unhappy. I have tried doing the social thing by taking snacks of cheese, fresh nuts, or baby carrots (they do not trigger my addiction), and home- brewed green tea (so I wouldn't drink the sodas or juices offered) but people let me know they think that is weird. At pot-luck dinners I would take a dish for everyone to share, but then bring my own plate of a large salad and lean meat and fruit for dessert. I wanted to be there for the socializing, but not damage my health. Some got defensive, like I was better than them or suggesting a negative to them for eating that stuff. Some let me know they felt I was giving them an insult, suggesting they were eating the wrong foods, or saying they were fat. My pastor actually talked to me about it, and told me to " just eat small portions of what was offered there, and not bring special foods " . Well, small portions of those foods set me on a tangent that was like me trying to have a little bit of booze. I get so out of control with the sugars that people at these events have actually commented on my going back for seconds or thirds, and yesterday I was told by a friend of mine that she actually wanted to tell me to " not go back for more " . I tell you it gets embarrassing, but once I start eating sweets I just cannot stop no matter even if I will end up embarrassed, or damaging my health. I really want to stop this. I am very tempted to go back to taking my own foods with me at all times and to these events, so that I will be able to deal with my sugar addiction. Taking my *special foods* has an embarrassment factor also, mainly because others make such a *negative* issue about it. But, what am I supposed to do? I would love to hear from others here on how to handle this without becoming isolated. Being I am single, and with no family these social events are very important to me. I stopped using the Cayenne and now I can take the FULL DOSE of 4 tbsp. daily of VCO and even late in the evening and can sleep okay. 1. When you take your VCO, take it pure maybe 1 tablespoon right before each regular meal. It triggers a satiation effect during eating making it easier not to over-eat. Guest guest
The answer to weight loss is to purify ones system, all the time the colon is full of toxins and old waste matter weight is very difficult to get rid of, people on our program lose between 4 to 10 kilos over a two week period. Safely whilst receiving incredible benefits. Its common sense that Liver detoxing only works after one purifies ones colon, if not it fights a constant battle to keep up with the poisons, chemicals, cooked foods and natural toxins in ones body. Coconut oil and the water are essential for a clean and healthy system but there is no feeling like purification its addictive and works for every one no matter what the ailment or complaint. Guest guest
I don't know if this will be of help to anyone, but I thought I would mention it. Sugar cravings and an inability to lose weight are often symptoms of a hormone imbalance. I am talking about NATURAL, plant based hormone replacement therapy, not synthetic. You can go to this website for the name of a compounding pharmacy near you: _www.iacprx.org_ (http://www.iacprx.org) When you find one near you, call them ask for the name of a doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. You can also get the saliva tests kits yourselves for testing, but then you will have to find a doctor to write the prescriptions for the natural hormones. These are plant based replacements. _www.aeron.com_ (http://www.aeron.com) and _www.sabresciences.com_ (http://www.sabresciences.com) I also highly recommend Suzanne Somers books, The Sexy Years, and Ageless for more information on bioidentical hormones. I've been doing it for two months now, and my sugar and salt cravings have mostly stopped. I am still tweaking my hormone levels to get them into perfect balance, so weight loss has been slow so far, but at least it has started. I also have more energy for exercise and life in general. No amount of coconut oil or low carb diets will help if you are insulin-resistant because of hormone imbalance. Radical to say here, I know, but it's the truth. I'd be happy to share more in private, if anyone is interested. I hope this helps someone. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

Being I am single, and with no family these social > events are very important to me. > > Amber > ================== Hi Amber, It sounds like you really want to take good care of yourself. Addiction is so hard to overcome when you are addicted to something that is not considered " taboo " in the world. People are much more likely to support your attempts to overcome a drug or alcohol addiction than a sugar addiction because more people are addicted to sugar than want to admit, and your attempts are probably convicting them which in turn makes them defensive, regardless of the innocence of your actions. I used to be a weight watchers member, actually even though I no longer attend meetings, I am a lifetime member. During one of the meetings soneone came up with an idea for social eating that I have used in the past, and it has worked great. The idea is to eat your healthy meal just before going to the social event (and VCO), so that when you get there you are fully satisfied. People are more likely to accept that you are not very hungry more than seeing you eat something different than everyone else. Then if you want to eat something at the event you are more likely to make better food choices because you are not hungry. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Yes it is puzzling to me, as well. Especially after reading accounts of some others who are losing weight and in Fife's book. The only thing that has changed in my diet (which is generally pretty good) is the addition of the VCO - mind you I am not replacing un-healthy oils, like vegetable or corn oils just adding 2-3 tablespoons daily. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks so it may not be enough time to tell whether the weight will come off or stabilize. The only other change has been a bit more exercise on my part to try to get my weight back to normal. Guest guest
Some people are genetically very 'sensitive' to sugars. Sugar is similar chemically to cocaine!! Others can take or leave sugars..they don't have the same weakeness. The people that have one small taste and want to keep g oing and going...they are sugar sensitive! Try www.biosuperfood.com its can help with cravings.. I don't sell it. I use it ...very good. The more nourished you are the less likely to go overboard on sugars..also see www.themagicisbac.com AJD
Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the group and this is my first post. For those with carb cravings, here is what worked for me: Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). I started taking it every morning for stomach aches, and it works very well. After a few weeks, I also noticed that I had reduced my craving for carbs by a great deal. I have chocolate bars in my kitchen that I don't even touch now. I started the GSE for my stomach, but ended up staying on it for the reduced carb craving as well. You can take it in the liquid form or tablet, either one works just as well. The liquid is very bitter, but it works faster, for an acute problem (like a stomach ache), the tablets I take with my breakfast every morning as an ongoing preventative. The theory of why it works is that the GSE controls yeast growth, that an overabundance of yeast in the body is what triggers the carb cravings (yeast feeds on sugar). I don't know if that is what makes it work, but I don't really care why, I just know that it works, and I used to be a carbaholic. I also exercise daily (I walk my dog 3-4 miles every day after work) and that helps with the cravings and obviously, with the weight. I buy GSE (both liquid and tablets) at Whole Foods (health food store). I hope that helps. > > > In a very kind and loving way I would like to address a word to > those > > > proponents of " it's very simple. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy refers to SEX hormones. Insulin resistance is not caused by a sex hormone imbalance. Insulin resistance is a condition in which the cells of the body become resistant to the hormone, insulin. Insulin resistance may be part of the metabolic syndrome, and associated with the development of heart disease. Insulin resistance precedes the development of type 2 diabetes. Guest guest
Amber, I'm replying to your post as I've just now read it, and haven't read any other replies as of yet, so I may be duplicating other's suggestions. In answer to your question, " I am very tempted to go back to taking my own foods with me at all times and to these events, so that I will be able to deal with my sugar addiction. Taking my *special foods* has an embarrassment factor also, mainly because others make such a *negative* issue about it. But, what am I supposed to do? " Short and simple...get new friends. These people who put you down are not your friends. Keep up your efforts to live healthy - it is so worth it. -Patty

" Amber, Your minister should have a strong talking to. He of all people should understand addictions as he must counsel alcoholics and drug addicts using the religion as therapy for this. Ask him " Would you ask a drug addict or an alcoholic to drink just a little bit or take a little snort of cocaine to fit it? What is different about me than a diabetic who can't eat sugar or it will send them into diabetic shock? " Shame on him. If that continues then find yourself a church that will support you no matter how you eat! I understand your addiction to sweets and carbs. I was he same way and the only way I could break my addiction to fat (I'm not so worried about that one now), sugar and salt was to cut them out completely for months at a time. I would go to work potlucks with my own bowl of salad and entire meal. I was admired for my perseverance and my clean eating habits. My boss at work told me one day that he started to give his kids better food choices because of me. That made me feel good! If you are working to make yourself a stronger person then don't let anyone stop you from doing this. Your body is a partner in this life and you should treat it in the right manner and this mean fueling it correctly. Think of your body as a finely made sports car - the top of the line sports car. You wouldn't put the low octane fuel into this car or you would ruin it. You would put the best gasoline and additives into it to keep it running right. One day I was in the pet store buying dog food for my dogs and I realized I was feeding my dogs better than I was feeding my body. That was a wake up call for me! You may want to look into using EFT (emotional freedom techniques) at emofree.com for the cravings. They have free manual for the technique at http://emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp. You have to sign up for the newsletter but the newsletter is good. I've used EFT and it has worked for me in some issues. Stay strong in the process of treating your body correctly. When you go to a social event remember that eating should be a small part of it. Spend more time socializing than eating. Go through some low carb cookbooks and Internet websites to find things that don't look lowcarb and take them with you. Make a delicious low carb cheesecake that everyone will beg you to bring the next time. Or take a roast chicken or carne asada or something that is a meat dish that you can eat freely of. Maybe it's time for you to make new friends and go to social events that aren't food related and who will understand and accept your way of eating. If you need to vent or talk more, you can email me privately. Christy K.

People who want you to eat things that will make you ill so they won't feel uncomfortable are NOT your friends. And your pastor is supposed to be YOUR pastor as well, with YOUR best interest to heart when he counsels YOU. I do not see any concern for YOU in his cruel advice. Believe it or not, if you want to be healthy more than you want to continue association with people who put their mental comfort above your physical health, you will dump this group and find a more compassionate and truly caring group to be friends with. Still, if you determine to continue these relationships, now knowing beyond doubt they do not care about your health, do keep in mind you are collaborating in keeping yourself sick. sol
