Guest guest
Dear , I hope that you will put into consideration the effort being exerted right now by the vcno association along with DTI, PCA, BFAD and DOST, etc. in making sure that what is marketed abroad will be according to the best of quality and price. Since there are a lot who are doing it on their own we must be careful with maintaining a high standard of quality. I just came from a gen meet of the VCNO in which BFAD, CITEM and PCA were part of the meeting. Heavily discussed was the fast tracking of the standards to make sure that the consumer will be protected and made aware of the standards of quality that is being set. You can get more info on the interim standards by getting in touch with the association. We are working closely on the national standards for VCNO with the concerned gov't agencies. I hope that after your careful study of the existing brands in the market, unbless your making your own. You would have already chosen to bring samples that will at least pass for high quality and not just for a cheaper price. That is why we are working closely with BFAD to be able to help the industry come up with high quality VCNO and to make sure that we don't experience another nata de coco incident. A lot of the buyers normally require the following although it varies from time to time but not limited to: cold processed Centrifuged processed With no heat kosher halal organic bfad approval HACCP/GMP ISO So you see there is a lot to consider. Hope that ou will be open to discussing further. I also want to invite you again to join the association so that you may benefit from it if you are serious with making it a business. aside from an advocacy. Guest guest
Selina As I have suggested to Divina Bawalan of PCA, it would be a good idea to have " inspectors " at the customs " outgoing area " to make sure that what goes out for export is indeed " quality vcno " . My husband and I have been producing cold pressed VCNO for personal use. By the way, how does one get to be a member of the association of vcno? Thanks. Guest guest
Selina Does this mean now that all exporters have to be a member of the VCNO association? Guest guest
Of course not. what i am suggesting is to be one although its not mandatory. WE put up the association and worked hand in hand with the gov't agencies and other ngos concerned with the coconut industry to be able to come up with the natioanl standards that will benefit the industry. We don't want a repeat of the nata de coco incident. There are a lot out there doing vcno, but how sure are we that what is coming out will conform with what should be in terms of quality. I am not questioning that what the others are exporting is of inferior quality, only that we should be open to working togther for the growth of the industry whether you are a member or not. Coz whatever happens will affect the industry good or bad. Guest guest
Thanks. But if other exporters are non-members of the vcno association, it would be hard to regulate the export of vcno. If this is the case our only hope is to have the exported vcno tested at the port before shipment, test for pureness of vcno, aflatoxins, molds, and no moisture content.
