Guest guest
Dear all, I have a mild elevated alanine Tansaminase (ALT)of about 70 (last year 14) the cause of which I am still not certain. More tests need to be taken. I have been taking canola oil for cooking and virgin linseed oil mixed with yoghurt for daily consumption. Meanwhile I have decided to stop both and want to consume VCO instead of canola. Is this okay? Also the VCO(slightly yellow) I found from the local Malaysian shelf smells too strong for cooking. I have found another called VVD gold coconut oil from India. This I find more suitable for cooking. You can check the web at http://www.vvdindia.com/vvd/coconutoil.htm Does anyone know whether this oil is hydrogenated or have opinions on it? I learnt that the oil should not be hydrogenated for health. Your advise is highly appreciated. Thanks Alan
Guest guest
Alan, canola oil is a man-made hybrid of rape seed. I haven't heard of anyone using linseed oil for internal consumption. Absolutely, you should switch to VCO instead of canola. If the VCO you found has a strong smell, that's coming from the fresh coconuts. It's not too strong for cooking. Depending on what you put it in, VCO adds a very mild coconut taste to food. There is a refined version of CO that doesn't have a scent, and is more suitable for cooking, since it does not add any coconut flavor. I've read it is possible to hydrogenate CO, but I've never seen nor heard of any. Any hydrogenation of any oil is NOT good for anyone's health, at all. That's what causes the artery-clogging " trans fats. " Do a search for coconut oil, and you'll find lots of websites selling it, as well as information sites. I use a brand called " Nutiva, " that I get from a local store. It's made from fresh coconuts, cold-processed, and tastes great. For a brand that has a refined, cooking version, there's a brand I used to use, called " Jungle. " They have a website, as does Nutiva. You can also find coconut oil being sold on eBay, for some nice, inexpensive prices. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thank Cryss for your reply. Actually I was taking organic flaxseed oil(same as linseed oil) blended with yoghurt. Seems to be good for the blood (google budwid protocol) My Chloresterol went up too exp ldl. So I am trying to find a suitable coconut oil from local stores rather than from Ebay..too troublesome when I am from Malaysia. This vvd gold coconut oil I am talking about have a sweet smell (like deodorised) clear and have mild coconut taste. Guess it is refined. Is it hydrogenated? Has refined coconut has benefits? Guest guest
It is unfortunate how many eBay sellers will not sell to foreign countries. They are missing out on a lot of extra sales. In my business, for the past 13 years, I have had no problems shipping overseas. And I know how difficult it can be for some people in some countries to get ahold of things locally. Yes, flaxseed oil is supposed to be good for health. It's one of the highest sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, after fish oil. Yes, my LDL cholesterol went up some, in the past 3 months, since my last check, because I was taking flaxseed oil capsules. But I don't think it's that bad, for the LDL to raise some. If it's coming from the addition of a good source of Omega-3's, then it can't be all that " bad. " Cholesterol drug making companies, and doctors, have blown the " bad " cholesterol " scare " way out of proportion, just to sell their drugs. The truth is your own liver MAKES most of the cholesterol in your body, and it is ESSENTIAL to have both kinds. So, cholesterol is not the " demon " the drug companies would have us believe. A refined coconut oil, should not have any smell to it, because it has been " refined, bleached, and deodorized, " also known as " RBD. " Is it NOT hydrogenated. But it DOES still have benefits. According to what I've read, it DOES still have the very important Lauric Acid in it, but I think it's just not as high of an amount as the non- refined oil. I think all CO is good for you, it just differs with the amount of the Lauric Acid. The more you have in the CO, the better it is for you. That's why there's so much emphasis on the " virgin " version. The important thing is to use whatever kind of CO you can find, there, locally. It's definitely better than canola, and better than any other vegetable oil out there. Whatever kind you can get will benefit your overall health. Take care.
