Guest guest
CO and ADD > Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on how coconut oil would effect children (or for that matter adults) who are hyperenergetic? I'm thinking mostly of children with ADD. My son had/has ADD and now he's 18; when he takes coconut oil he says he has so much energy he can't contain it. Do you think coconut oil could make ADD kids worse? > I am no health professional & have had zero experience with ADD people. However, from what I have read, the basic need is to cut out flour, grain, beans, corn, sugar, etc. If coconut oil is added into a diet which contains breads & sweets, it cannot do its beneficial things. But when the diet is free of concentrated carbohydrates (leafy greens are ok even though they contain some carbos), then I would think the coconut oil would not exacerbate the ADD problem. But I am no health professional, so best to experiment & see. Alobar

Do you think coconut oil could make ADD kids worse? I don't think it would make them worse, but anything is possible. However, the first thing I'd do is get the kid tested for IgA food allergies. Kids who react to wheat, when they test their brains, have the same pattern as ADD kids. I've known several parents who changed the kid's diet and had them totally recover. It isn't always obvious what sets them off though. One mother spent a couple of years experimenting, and ended up with digestive enzymes, the Feingold diet (or an offshoot of it), and no wheat/barley/rye. THAT kid also reacted to blueberries. So CO might be an issue for some of them. -- Heidi
Guest guest
I have a little experience with coconut oil and ADD. We have one customer who has 5 adult children. 3 of them have ADD/ADHD, 2 of these three have skin disorders. There are a lot of health problems in the family. When they first started taking coconut oil they could only use 1 teaspoon at a time because it would upset their digestive tracts. They have tried many things both natural and medical that did not work and they have situations that make alternative methods their only hope, now. For example, no dentist will touch the mother because of her heart valve problems. The father also has a terminal illness, for which the medical system has no answer. Anyway, this family knows that when they use the coconut oil (they are up to 3 tablespoons a day for most of the family now) their hyperactive children have so much energy they can hardly contain themselves. This family does not do any of the typical allergens, and they have done lots with diet. They do a modified Nourishing Traditions diet with no gluten. They raise their own beef on grass and their own raw milk, free ranged eggs, etc. The coconut oil, because it is an easy source of energy and because it speeds up metabolism, definitely does increase hyperactivity. The family believes, that the coconut oil is helping to eliminate toxins and pathogens from their bodies. They look at this as more of a healing crisis than a step in the wrong direction. They continue to use the coconut oil and have just increased the physical activity for their children. Unfortunately I do not have the " end of the story " for you. This family has seen health improvements over the months, but the ADD/ADHA children still notice an increase in energy. Most families would not continue on. They would have given up almost immediately, or at least within the first few months. But this family is continuing to use the coconut oil, giving it their best shot to see if the children will eventually cleanse and be normal. They never take the coconut oil late at night, as no one would be able to sleep. And they always have a full day of hard physical work for the children. This does not give you any answers, Sharon. But at least you know you and your son are not alone in experiencing this. I can let you know how things turn out as this next year unfolds. Guest guest
Poor family, it sounds as if they are living near something very toxic to all of thier systems--or in a toxic house. You mentioned they have tried alternative methods, have they ever tried building up their essential fatty acids? I have read of great success with ADD/ADHD and skin problems in curing them using only essential fatty acids and a powerful probiotic. I take 1 tablespoon of emulsified orange cod liver oil each day, originally I took 2 to build up my system. I even give it to my little girl, she thinks it is a treat. Her hair no longer sticks up, and though she is still an energetic little one she never has any problem sleeping or taking naps. I also had her on a child's acidopholus, but she has been out for a time now. If they were able to I think a colon and liver cleanse would be wonderful avenues to pursue, I know these two have brought me a long way in my quest for health. I like Dr. Schultz's, but there are several good ones out there I think. Please pass it on to them if you think it might be helpful. Guest guest
Thanks, Annette! My son at 18 is now able to direct his energy himelf but he was curious to know if what he suspected was true. It's not a problem for us really, but it's good to know for the future for when I advise others. I really hope that family finds a solution to their problems must be quite trying for them! But the children being adult helps. I think with young children it would be a different story. Sharon

Caitlin Lorraine > I have sugar-free inulin that helps restore bowel bacteria without the need for expensive probiotics... But that's not what I'm answering about... ADD and ADHD can be viewed as a toxin problem, and cell miscommunication. I've heard several excellent reports, from nurses, about using the Mannatech product Ambrotose to reduce the severity of the ADD almost to normal in a few months. Although it restores important sugars to form proper cell receptor sites, and that normalizes cell function including and especially hormone-directed responses and immune response, it should be obvious that people who detoxify and practice good nutrition will respond better/faster.
