Guest guest
Laurie, maybe drinking more water will help a lot. I thought ketones were produced when we either consume too much meat and not enough carbs PLUS if we were Diabetic. Bonnie Elevated cholesterol I just got my blood tests results back, and I have an elevate cholesterol level, and slightly high ketones. All the doctor noted was to drink more water. Does anyone have better feedback than that? I have NO idea what these mean? Guest guest
Laurie and Bonnie, from what I understand ketones are formed in the body when the body is forced to metabolize its protein to get its energy supply, instead of using stored fat or stored glycogen. It can happen more in a situation when food intake does not provide enough carbs. So taking enough carbs appears a very logical solution. But there is the high cholesterol problem? For this you have to eat some amount of fat to release some cholesterol. Eating fats triggers the release of bile acids which are produced from the body's excess cholesterol. Bile acids solublelize the fats that we eat making them digestible. For this purpose - good quality VCO is the most fitting fat to eat. VCO triggers bile acid release, yet its main content - medium chain fatty acids - does not become fats and cholesterol inside the body. Guest guest
Ketones are caused by protein being excreted through the kidneys. I had this when I was pregnant with my daughter. Unless there are indications of kidney disease, it is really nothing to worry about--- staying well-hydrated should take care of it. Also, be aware that the " high " cholesterol numbers are usually indicative of *nothing*, considering how the researchers skewed the data in order to continue receiving research money. Guest guest
I'd like to clarify the definition of ketones. They aren't proteins. Ketones are by-products of spent fats. The body excretes them through the breath, urine and perspiration. You are pretty much always producing ketones, it is perfectly normal. Often there are so many ketones being produced that they can actually be measured. When they reach this amount you are considered to be in ketosis. Ketosis, a normal body function is nothing to fear unless you are Type 1 diabetic. As a matter of fact, except for stronger breath and urine, ketosis is otherwise desireable. Lipolysis and ketosis are considered interchangeable. > > Ketones are caused by protein being excreted through the kidneys. I > had this when I was pregnant with my daughter. Guest guest
Laurie, What is your cholesterol numbers. What is high about your cholesterol that is worrying your physician. I have seen so many comments on high cholesterol by various people but no one knows what their numbers are. We all have to become pro-active with our medical care especially with so many various medications out there. My mom was told that her cholesterol was high but has no idea what her numbers are. She doesn't even know the purpose of cholesterol. Find out what your numbers mean and I can be of more help to you. > > I just got my blood tests results back, and I have an elevate cholesterol > level, and slightly high ketones. Guest guest
Hi,  Thank you Tony for the information.  I never limit carbs, so I am not sure why I would have the Ketones, unless it is a prediabetes thing? I will call the doctor later today.  I have been on the VCO for a month now, do you think maybe it would make my choleteserol look higher as it is being removed from my system?  Just so confused. I actually did know it was the result of burning your fat tissue for fuel, but I get a little hazy sometimes when I have too much going on! Which I do. Blessings, Jill!
