Guest guest
Where did you read that VCO was good for high blood pressure? That would be great, if it's true. Did you read it on just one webpage, or more than one? I use VCO on my toast, just like butter. On wheat bread, it reminded me of the cinnamon toast my mother used to make, so I got a bottle of cinnamon, and it takes pretty good on the VCO. Today, I added just a sprinkle of Stevia, to make it more like cinnamon-sugar toast, and it tasted pretty good, too. I've also used it to cook scrambled eggs in, and it gives them a yummy, light taste. And the skillet seems to clean up a lot easier, afterward, than with butter or margarine. The eggs don't seem to stick as easily. I've also used the VCO to fry hashbrown potatoes in, along with water, and it gives them a very slight coconut taste, which I like. So does my husband. Those are the only ways I've used it, so far. And I don't--yet--get 2T a day. I don't care very much to eat the oil straight out of the jar. I've used Garden of Life, which I found at a local health food store, and I currently have a jar from a brand called " Jungle, " which I hadn't heard of before. But it says their product is virgin and pure and cold-pressed, so it seemed a better option than the other brand they had at Whole Foods. Between the 2, I think the Garden of Life jar tasted better. It was only $1 more than this stuff. I've read several people recommend putting the VCO in a smoothie, so perhaps you can try that. Just keep experimenting with it. I'm sure you'll find something you like. Cryss > > Just purchased some extra virgin coconut oil as I read it was good for > high blood pressure (2 T. a day). > It's like eating flavoured lard. Guest guest
> Cryss Read Bruce Fife's books, Coconut Cures, is one of them. Make sure you use seasalt(celtic or redmonds) and cut the normal salt out. You need salt to regulate blood pressure but not the normal stuff, which also has aluminum in. You also need it for your adrenals, they can affect blood pressure. I had low blood pressure and it raised mine to normal, and given me warm feet. And of course the vco helps too, as it's very good for the heart. As long as the rest of the diet/lifestyle is good, don't forget processed foods are laden with the bad salt. Ignore me if you already eat a good diet, but i hate people going on meds to reduce blood pressure when it can be done through diet, have you had all other checks done, heart etc. > Where did you read that VCO was good for high blood pressure? Guest guest
RE: It's like eating flavoured lard. What can I do to make it go down easier? Stir in 1-2 T. honey per cup of softened or melted VCO - when cooled and a uniform light amber color (thoroughly combined) you can scoop out little globs (I use a tiny cookie scoop) and refrigerate or freeze. It's like eating a truffle candy--melts in your mouth. Or eat by spoonful at room temp. This makes a good spread too--honey alone is way too sweet. I work with high blood pressure clients so there's more to controlling BP. EXCELLENT as VCO is, you should consider going on a BP control program. Guest guest
Think of it this way...replace the transfats and dammaging oils with coconut oil. Those bad fats dammage the arteries so plaque builds up to repair them. The plaque narrows the arteries and causes the high blood pressure. Remove the cause ... solve the problem. My husband controlled his high blood pressure with garlic and exercise...when he goes off the garlic and stops exercise...his blood pressure goes right back up....he is now on meds again....and he doesn't like it ....so hopefully he will start back on the garlic and exercise! Guest guest
It's even good spread on crackers, then add some cheese....I even made the kids crackers with the oil, then P & B on them - they thought it was a great snack!!!
