I went from grocery store red pepper to 90,000 shu cayenne and have just ordered a pound of 130,000 shu. Personally, I would NEVER use cayenne in capsules. The stomach needs to know what is coming and by bypassing the sense organs in mouth, one is playing a trick on the gut. I use cayenne in sauce for Buffalo style chicken wings, mixed with my liquid vitamins, mixed with fiber powder and water, and as a tea, which I sip on chill evenings. Because I have a strong sensitivity to oxalates in my diet, and cayenne is high oxalate, the hotter peppers are safer for me than the mild ones, because I need to eat less to get the same heat. Also, taking Calcium citrate prior to each dose of cayenne can bind with oxalate in the gut and prevent oxalate problems because it will be flushed out in the stool, rather than absorbed. I'm not sure who it was that said that in her experience the cause of all illness is stress, and that added that she smokes. Does not follow ... it seems to me that stress may be driving you to smoke, but it's the smoke that creates its consequences, not the stress. Some people even snort it , even the really hot stuff (800,000 plus heat units) sure cleans out the sinuses. You have to get the good stuff at a herbalists or healthfood store. All the supermarket spices have been irradiatted for the sake of long shelf life. It seemed hot at first, but as I got mpre and more used to the heat, I kept having to use more and more. I saw some 90,000 scoville heat unit cayenne at WholeFoods. I bought some. I decided to do a side by side comparison. I put a tiny bit of the 90,000 shu cayenne on my dry finger tip and touched to to the tip of my tongue. Very nice flavor and quite hot. I then put a smidge of the gracery store cayenne on another fingertip and touched that to the tip of my tongue. The grocery store cayenne did not seem hot at all. In fact, it had a cooling effect on my tongue. In my experience, gracery store cayenne is usable, but one has to use a lot to get any medicinal effects. Sure better than nothing, but not nearly as good as the high heat cayennes available over the internet.
