Guest guest
MOrning Kae!!! I was in Canadaiqua yesterday too! Kinda grey but the sun did come out in early afternoon. I went down to take some stuf to a show that is going on today and tomroow. If you happen to be in the neighborhood ...... Its at All Things Art. I love Canadaiqua its soo charming. Also hubby and I walked around and visited a couple of yummy eating places MMM, and I drug him into a couple of needleworking shops since I am getting into punchneedle as well. And we had a interesting conversation with the guy at Coyotes' Den. My dd would LOVE that place. Oh and speaking of givine soap away, I gave a soap away to a shop owner because she let us park in her parking lot to unload my stuf. Even when we wernt shopping at her shop. Its all a good thing. I think people definatly remember an unexpected gift out of the blue like that so its not all about the money. I have given (and recieived) full size soaps away a lot as gifts and also as just becuz. I think whether to give or sell samples depends on the samples and the situations. I have an idea that I want to start doing in shows. Perosnally I think its a really cool idea cuz like I said not everything is about the money. Actually I have had this idea for a long time but I always forget to do it when Im doing a show. One day I will tell you how it goes and what I did but in the meantime my lips are sealed. Shaye

It is a very beautiful area, and thank you for reminding me! I do tend to take it for granted! It is one of a VERY few areas where the downtown is still ALIVE and thriving in spite of nearby malls! Guest guest
Kae, A very interesting MSDS on Cholesterol. This does relate to pure cholesterol used in laboratories. I think the minimal amount we might be in contact with has no significance on our personal numbers. How are you enjoying the cooler weather? I'm already disliking it. Prefer warm weather. Guest guest
welcome to the group I too am pretty new to the group. I am very interested in knowing about the use of coconut milk. and i would lovve to have more ways to use it .. Could you please send me some of the recipes? Thank you and I look forward tro hearing more about it. Thank you all for your posts I have had many new ideas and information form them. Chris redpanda17 <redpanda17@...> wrote: Hello to everyone! I just joined this group. I'm quite fascinated with the recent interest in coconut oil. Yes, coconut oil has been cursed for a long time. It made a lot of coconut farmers desperate and demoralized. I'm not a coconut farmer by profession but I did live with " real " coconut farmers because my family owned coconut farms in the area close to where the virgin coconut oil is now being harnessed. At the height of the controversy banning the coconut oil in the 80's (was still in college), I have always wondered how and why it was declared unhealthy. Every single part of a coconut tree was very useful to us. Here are some of the ways we have used the coconut tree in general: 1. coconut water (not the milk): This is a staple drink among Filipinos, kind of like the orange juice in here. Best when you get them fresh, directly from the coconut, particularly from the " buko " . We drink this to help clear the urinary tract. Researchers can help confirm this. two kinds of coconut: buko ( young green coconut) has sweet, tender flesh ( you can scoop it with a spoon), even the shell is softer. niyog (mature coconut, you see them brown in color)hard shelled, flesh needs to be scraped for use, the source of coconut oil. 2. coconut oil has always been the Filipinos'cooking oil. Even before the advent of the vco, all families in the province where my family was from had coconut oil in their cupboards. Yes, I do know how to make it. But this is different from the vco which is not heat treated. External use for cuts and wounds (big and small). Yes, Band- aid was unknown to us. For some reason, your cut will not hurt when you apply coconut oil. (Actually, I have it now on my finger because of outgrown cuticle) 3. We always wanted to make our hair pitch black, we use coconut oil. 4. Coconut oil has always been used when massaging. Including a type of reflexology used by Filipinos called " hilot " . 5. A kind of native wine commonly called tuba is extracted from the coconut tree bud. This means that this tree will not bear fruit anymore and will just be dedicated for wine making. 6. Fermented coconut wine gives us the vinegar. We consider this as our best vinegar because its natural! Yes, farmers have to literally climb each tree to get to the sap. 7. Recently, I have read that the coconut husks are being used for water filter. (Well, we use them as floor polisher for our wooden floors) My dad had brain aneurysm. The doctor said it was congenital. He could have had the attack when he was younger. The attack was so fatal that he was not expected to live a day longer. He was comatose for almost a month. The doctor said it was his heart that would not give up. These are all I can remember at this point. I do know some recipes with coconut milk although I'm not sure if they will be attractive to the American palate. If you're curious, let me know. Information about coconut oil in the Philippines may vary because the islands (all 7,000 of them) have different customs and traditions. The information I'm giving you is from my hands-on experiences. The only thing I didn't do was climb the coconut tree.
Guest guest
Hi CW! This is a simple recipe: Mixed Vegetables in Coconut Milk 1 yellow squash sliced 1 zucchini sliced 1 green bell pepper sliced green beans or string beans cut 2 inches long tofu- the harder kind (cut 1 1/2 inches long) (You may substitute chicken strips for tofu) This is usually served with hot white rice. Stir fry the vegetables in coconut oil. Then put tofu in. Do not overcook. Pour coconut milk as desired. Cook in medium heat. Overcooking coconut milk will give you coconut oil. (Oops! did I just say that? Maybe I'll say something more about extracting coconut oil next time)Kidding aside, yes, your dish will come out oily but creamy. Some people like it that way but I just thought I would mention it to you to let you know. This recipe could also be found in some Vietnamese and Thai restaurants. Good luck! redPanda17 Could you please send me some of the recipes? > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Jackie O! It's really nice that I discovered this group just by surfing the internet. Mea culpa, mea culpa... I have only used one kind that's available at the filipino store. label is Quezon vco. We are experimenting with my Mom, who is in the Philippines. At this point, I wont be able to say anything. My feeling is, the more natural the process, the better. People have different standards of what they want in a VCO or even between vco or heat extracted coconut oil. We do not want to take heat extracted coconut oil internally. The advent of vco is so great! Believe it or not. There is more canned coconut milk in the States than in the Philippines. Some of you have probably noticed that canned coconut milk is either from Thailand or Vietnam and not from the Philippines, considering it's the second biggest source of coconut, the biggest exporter of coconut oil. thanks for the opportunity to share! redPanda17 --- jackie o <totalhealth@...> wrote: > redpanda17, > Nice to have you n the group ~ you will be a source > of great information to > us! > Do you have a favorite brand of VCO? > > Yours in better health...naturally, > Jackie 586-634-0835 > http://totalhealth.younglivingworld.com > http://totalhealth.myningxia.com > http://totalhealth.marketingscents.com > > Our creator has given us the tools to use to help > bring our physical, mental > and spiritual bodies back into a state of wholeness > and wellness. > Young Living Essential Oils offers us the > opportunity and supplies ~ are you > ready? > > " At some time in everyone's life they will stumble > across opportunity. > Sadly, most people will pick themselves up and walk > away > as though nothing had ever happened " > ~Winston Churchill~ > Hello to > everyone! > > > Hello to everyone! Guest guest
Yup! you may stick to tropical traditions. I would, too. I really cannot recommend anyone cause I think all of them work unless it's not naturally processed. There are a lot of small businesses in the Philippines that cannot market themselves commercially because of lack of financial support. Sometimes their product is better (because we think their product is not commercialized) but sometimes not :)It's just a Filipino mentality that anything home made is always better cause then it's not tainted with any artificial ingredients. if tropical traditions will stay with its " naturally processed " vco, stick to it. I have been to their website and so far, it seems like they're true to traditions. redPanda17 --- jackie o <totalhealth@...> wrote: > Well I've put Quezon in my search engine and came > nowhere near coconut oil! > Oh well! Guest guest
Hi to everyone! Honestly, I think all coconut oils are potent. Why? It has been used for a while. In fact, a lot of the traditions have been practically handed down from one generation to the other. It's been there a lot longer before the advent of vco? Why is vco so sensational even to the traditional coconut oil users? Because vco has made it possible for coconut oil to be taken just by itself internally. non virgin coconut oils are more viscous than vco. And shame on me even though its been the " windex " of our family, I WON'T TAKE IT BY ITSELF! lol How " windex " could it be? Well, my dad's special gift before I left the Philippines 8 years ago was a jar of coconut oil that was made on Good Friday, and nope, not a vco. It's still here. Since it's a the " windex " in the family, it was kind of " sacred " . What happened to my coconut oil? Well, it's still here! After 8 years. I thought I committed sacrilege because I actually mixed it with water so I won't run out of it. LOL winter in the north east is kind of brutal at times. Since I have been saving my coconut oil for real emergencies, I resorted to branded lotions thinking it would work better than pharmacy bought ones. Oh, well, an 8 ounce bottle lasted for two weeks. Of course, it didnt work. last resort, my coconut oil. also, i got allergic to mouthwash so I had embarassing rashes all around my lips. Used different kinds of lip balms, last resort, coconut oil. With vco? A lot of thanks to DR. Conrado Dayrit and DR. BRUCE FIFE for helping us open our eyes. redPanda17 --- jackie o <totalhealth@...> wrote: > Well I've put Quezon in my search engine and came > nowhere near coconut oil! > Oh well! Guest guest
Hi Jasmyn! I apologize for the delay. I was out camping with my class. Hope you will be able to enjoy this. This is a recipe enjoyed by my students. Chicken Macaroni Soup 2 cloves of garlic (pressed then cut into smaller pieces) onion ( 1 small head: diced) 1 chicken breast (cooked, flaked) mixed vegetables: carrots (cubed), celery stalks (cut in squares), corn coconut milk add as desired salt to taste add chicken seasoning as desired 2 cups elbow macaroni Pour coconut oil. Sautee: garlic first, when brown (try not to burn), add onion. add flaked chicken. Add 3 to 4 quarts water. Bring to a rapid boil. Add the macaroni. Stir for a couple of minutes to prevent sticking. Add salt and/or chicken seasoning. When pasta is al dente, add vegetables. Check carrots and celery stalks. Should be 3 to 5 minutes only. Turn off stove, leave the pot for a while to fully cook pasta but not overcook it. Add coconut milk. NOTE: This is a favorite recipe of my students. However, they will die for rice instead of pasta. To compromise, I mix pasta and rice together although these two have different ways of cooking. Anyone interested in rice alone or pasta and rice together can just write me for more information. redPanda17 __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing. This sounds so yummy. The recipe is not far off from a MAlaysian delicacy called " Lemak Chilli Api " but the Malaysian soup is real hot because of the cayene used. The Thais too have a similar soup..a variety of Tom Yam made with coconut milk. warmly AMI Genes Marquez <redpanda17@...> wrote: Hi Jasmyn! I apologize for the delay. I was out camping with my class.
