Guest guest
I still not completely clear on this but I have heard that if you heat the coconut oil is looses some of it's healthful properities. Maybe others to join in on this conversation because I have not been able to get a clear answer. Bruce Fife says in his book that you need three tablespoons a day. I am also not clear if that is fact or hype to promote the coconut business. how much how much oil do you take for it to be effective? Guest guest
Hmm... there is no coconut business to promote mainly because the coconut business, particularly coconut oil is based in the Philippines. All the " hype " that we hear here in the states is just a miniscule of what the coconut/coconut oil industry is all about. Of course, it'd be nice to somehow resurrect the dead coconut industry and to heal the broken-hearted coconut farmers but, if one digs further, you'll find that the " hype " is not actually a " hype " because coconut has been there since ancient times. (kind of mentioned this in one of my posts. Now, VCO is new. VCO has made it possible for us to take coconut oil internally. I have been in regular communication with my family in Manila. My Mom was amused by another concoction such as " canned coconut milk " and I mean milk as in milk. This is something new to her. At that time, I was making my own coconut oil and was proud that I think I was able to extract 5 tbs. Again, to her amazement, she asked me how many coconut heads I used and where I got them. I told her it was from the can. She was silent for a while, I bet she could not imagine what I was talking about. Is coconut oil potent? Yes, but I would leave it that way. I do not want it to go further than that. All the organic stuff we have been clamoring about are easily available in the Philippines like papaya soap, aloe vera shampoo, garlic pills, and many more. If we had diarrhea, my mother would boil avocado leaves. If avocado leaves were not available, we just ate a latundan, a kind of sweet banana (have not seen it anywhere in the US yet). For everything external, coconut oil (no, it wasn't virgin yet at that time There are lots of fruits and vegetables and herbs that are so common in the Philippines. Our refrigerators are small. Fruits and vegetables should only last for a couple of days in the refrigerator. Otherwise, it's deemed unconsummable. We do not eat frozen meat, much less frozen fish. Fish and vegetables are sold at a wet market only until lunchtime. After that, a new batch is sold for dinner. Last time I brought a kilo of crabs but was able to eat only a couple because they walked err...crawled out of the container. This is the only time that I realized how fortunate we were back home. Everything we ate was fresh! I haven't had fish in a long time. Still couldn't get over the fact that I could not have fresh fish all the time. What does this soliloquy have to do with all the coconut hullabaloo? Nothing. Things are just this way in the coconut country and had always been. A lot of people are rediscovering this way of life. If they gain something good from it one way or another, then, its great! If not, then find another way that you would be comfortable with --- <karen.anderson9@...> wrote: > I still not completely clear on this but I have > heard that if you heat the coconut oil is looses > some of it's healthful properities. Guest guest
I still not clear about how much to take or whether to heat it or not. I apologize if I sounded negative what I meant to say is I am confused because many have said you should not heat coconut oil to get good results yet we have read many post that seem to say that people are getting their VCO while cooking with it. Also, how much you should take is confusing to me I am a small person (120#) I watch my diet (very few carbs) and exercise regularly but I gain weight when I use the standard dose of three tablespoons a day. I also do not eat any other oils with the exception of cod liver oil and a tiny bit of olive oil on my salads. This is frustrating for me as I do want the benefits of VCO and I believe there are great benefits but I really hate to put on a couple of pounds a week. how much > > > how much oil do you take for it to be effective? > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Oh no! I wasn't bothered by the apparent " negativity " in your post at all. I could feel your frustration but always remember that things don't happen overnight. Yes, there are benefits that obviously happen right before your very eyes but Im not sure if losing weight is one of them. We have to watch our diet and the schedule of our meals, too. A lot of people take vco internally by tablespoons. Though a traditional coconut/oil consumer/user I like mine in my food. Not that I have anything against taking it internally, I just want to have it in my system without a hassle or thinking too much about it. However, I use it all the time. One tip is to use coconut milk as a creamer when you're cooking and for desserts. Sometimes, I just eat it like whip cream except coconut milk doesn't give me THE gas. It's smorgasbord for me before 6 pm. After that, no more. My body feels lighter in the morning. --- <karen.anderson9@...> wrote: > I still not clear about how much to take or whether > to heat it or not. Guest guest
I have been taking TT concentrated coconut cream and adding regular VCO to it. I take about two tablespoon of this concoction as it seem I can digest it better then just VCO. Possible it the added carbs in the concentrated coconut cream that is causing me to gain weight. I started out at 118 and within about a month I'm at 122 and the only change in my diet is the VCO concoction. Guest guest
, I have been taking about 4 to 6 tablespoons of coconut oil per day for the past 5 months. I gained about 10 pounds (from 150 to 160 lbs) within the first month of taking it, but since then my weight has been steady. Bruce Fife's book is an excellent book on the benefits of coconut oil, but another good book to read is " Eat Fat, Lose Fat " by Sally Fallon. She says that if you eat the right kind of fats, like coconut oil, you will gain weight if you need to, and lose weight if you need to. In my case, I know I feel a lot better and have more energy at my current weight. > > > I still not completely clear on this but I have > > heard that if you heat the coconut oil is looses > > some of it's healthful properities. Guest guest
Well, try whatever works for you It sure requires a little sacrifice but theres no harm in trying. FOR EVERYONE: I have realized that the contributors to this forum are from all over the world, not just from one continent! It is fascinating to know other people's dietary habits and point of views. --- <karen.anderson9@...> wrote: > Your last sentence answered my previous question. > That is probably what I am doing wrong. Guest guest
Are you eating a lot of breads, sugar etc. along with the Coconut oil? JK
Guest guest
im not quite sure what you mean. well, I eat everything. Im very eclectic when it comes to food. I do love bread. I eat bread to my heart's content. But... I know when to stop because then I crave for something else. If food is healthy, then I will keep eating it. I am a rice eater. But I have to give up rice sometimes so I can eat something else I like like pasta. I cannot have pasta and rice everyday. I don't deprive myself of sugar. Although quite frankly sometimes my taste buds get " disoriented " from eating too much sweets (that is, according to my personal standards) LOL like something sweet will taste sour eventually. I can eat one piece of chocolate a day. Notice I didnt say only because to me that is enough. I like desserts but not the " sugar desserts " (too much sugar that it seems like the main ingredient is sugar). I don't see the point of eating hard candies so I don't eat them. I like cakes and cookies. Eating chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake, chocolate bars, chocolate etc. is overkill. i guess in a nutshell, enjoy everything by taking it in moderation :)My point of view is that everything made by nature is good so we do not alter it, abuse it or overdo it. Therefore, carbs, fats, proteins and other nutrients work together. They are the ingredients that our body use to make us live. Kind of like heat, water, air and light are the ingredients for the plants to make food. If one is missing or if you give your plant too much of one thing, it will die. The coconut oil? It's not only coconut oil for me. It's the whole coconut. Again, though a traditional coconut user, I like my coconut in my desserts, entrees; and oil for frying and for my skin. I think when I said dietary habits I sort of meant the schedule of meals since originally the thread and I were in was about schedule of meals. In some cultures dinner is their biggest meal. In some it's lunch. But I guess our body needs transcend cultural differences. --- jeanne_simons@... wrote: > Are you eating a lot of breads, sugar etc. along > with the Coconut oil? > JK > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
you will be able to get the full benefit, combine it with exercising like jogging whenever you feel like it, & take VCO 1st before eating your usual meal , my experience is that you will have to wait for the best result to take effect meaning you have to be patient, anyway there's no side effects except good effects every afterwards. Hope you can understand what am I trying to say. Thanks too. Ciao! Guest guest
I agree w/ , if you feel like you push yourself during that hour and feel worked, then it's enough. Eventually you may want to cut back on cardio and add some strength training. But if an hour of tae-bo is working for you now, don't change it DarcyOn 8/18/06, fitgrl222@... <fitgrl222@...> wrote: In a message dated 8/18/2006 4:47:54 A.M. I do one hour of tae-bo, is that > not enough? Thanks hi holly! well, how much i workout each day depends on how im feeling, what kind of rotation im doing, what i have time for, etc... it also depends on what is right for you and what fitness level you are at. everyone is different and we all have to tailor our workout schedules to suit ourselves. in addition to duration, intensity is important. one could workout all day long but not put much into the moves and not get anything from them. but if you try hard and do your best during your workout, then you are doing a really great thing and it doesnt matter if it is 30 mins or an hour or whatever. and besides taebo is a great workout!! we know that it is not easy! and, yeah, our posts here can be a bit misleading. some of us might do a multitude of videos in a day, but actually we are mixing and matching them... doing 10 mins from one, a section of another.... to get a complete workout that we will enjoy. and others might workout for a couple of hours a day, but are doing an array of activities. sure it would be hard to do two hours of cardio a day, but not so hard to do an hour of cardio and an hour of stretching. also, you dont want to do TOO much for your fitness level and end up burning out. alot of our friends here have been working out every day for years and have a high level of fitness... their bodies can handle a lengthy workout with alot of variety. so, dont compare yourself to anyone else. do your own thing, do what feels right for you and gets you the results that you want. you are doing great! TAEBO ON baybee! :*carolyn.
Guest guest
Hi Holly, I do about an hour a day - sometimes more, sometimes less but that is my average. Sometimes I'd like to do more, but I really don't have the time in my schedule to regularly devote much more than an hour to exercise. I think whatever fits your lifestyle in terms of time you have available and fitness level is perfect. Tae Bo is tough so I'm sure an hour is plenty!
