Mmm...So I guess an adult dwarf running around onstage in a diaper and a

bottle, or one who fights and goes after a voluptuous (ok, big-busted) women

on the " Jerry Springer Show, " or lp's getting squashed under a huge sneaker

in a Nike commercial...

How is THAT kind of entertainment is not demeaning or lowering of standards??

::scratches head::

Well, I always thought demeaning is the same as degrading or " humilating "

(you may say " humbling " ).

To add to that is the Stern show this past Friday. I don't watch

Stern at all. I would rather watch the Weather Channel. ;-) A guy

friend of mine who is not short stature caught it and thought it was rather

degrading.

Fred Astaire is known for the song " That's Entertainment. " I don't believe he

meant this kind of entertainment that Davey, Judy or I mentioned. :-)

Whether you mean demeaning, degrading, demoting. It is all the same.

" That's all folks from me on this. " :-)

i'm not 100% sure i know what dwarf bowling is. there's a good chance i dont

want to , either.

LP's are entertainers. so are BP's. from fred's list, it's obvious that

there are many <and some unmentioned> accomplishments and occupations held

by LP's. many of these same positions are held by BP's.

i know i'm simplistic, but in my happy corner of the world, people are

people. they might be shorter or taller, fatter or thinner, smarter or not

half as smart as i am-- but when it comes down to the wire, they are people.

period.

i tried to teach my own kids to take pride in themselves, not for their

ancestry, or their skin colour or the way they look, but because they worked

to make a good impact on the world. to take pride in what they were able to

achieve; to take pride in helping others; to be proud of using their

intelligence to solve a problem.

pardon me while i go find my asbestos underwear now....<G>

I'm in my happy corner too. :-)

I don't judge people either by their height, weight, color, nationality,

religion, age, sex, financial background. I have friends that are different

from each other in each and every category.

This discussion wasn't about judging people, but certain demeaning things

such as dwarf bowling or certain other things that are being done publicly

that affect more than just the person doing it.

Bruce Hornsby did a very moving song a few years ago about racism and

the key line was " that's just the way it is, some things will never

change " his point being that no it doesn't have to be " the way it is "

and things can change! Let's not be complacent.

I didn't mean Bruce Hornsby. I meant Celine Dion. :-)

No one is being complacent.
