Guest guest
Another clubbed footer here I don't remember any of my numerous foot surgeries, but they obviously didn't work. I know I had my Talus Bone (sp?) taken out of both feet, they cut my heel cords but my feet automatically went back to their normal position, I've had pins inserted into my feet (which were pushed out of my feet b/c of the strong resistance of my bones) and many other surgeries. One of my orthapedists is in love with my feet and hands. He wants to do reconstructive surgery on them but I won't let him because I basically have no problems with what I can do, so I see no point in re-learning how to walk and write again. But for my feet, he wants to do the Elizeroth (sp?) Procedure. With this he would break all the bones in my feet from the ankle down, reposition them to be flatfooted, insert pins/bars into the newly positioned bones and basically wear like a halo brace around my feet until the bones grew back properly. It looks very similar to the limb lenghtening device but I told him I would only do it if I was absolutely unable to walk anymore. It sounds too painful and too complicated and plus, I get cabin fever too easy I too, were the AFO's/braces on my feet. They from the knee down and are my, as Forrest Gump says, my magic legs They make shoe shopping hard sometimes but with those orthapedic or specially made shoes, you don't get a lot of selecton or a style that doesn't scream Dr School's! hehe...I'm sure they work for many people but I haven't been satisfied with the selection in styles and colors of them. But wiithout my braces, I would have a VERY hard time walking around. When I do walk barefoot like around my room, my feet eventually start hurting without the support. I don't know a lot of DD's/Diastrophics who wear the braces. Most of them that I know, don't and it amazes me how well they get around and find shoes that fit alright...I guess adaptation does that Anyhoo, just my input!
