Guest guest
This is extremely thought provoking. I wonder and even worry about details..... but I've never thought of this. Hmmmm. Lots of people don't even know what day the holidays fall on. Like, well... me, for example... I know Labor day is in September, but I don't know what day. Now I'm gonna lose even more sleep pondering this.........The only explaination I can think of is " Us lazy Americans " . I really doubt if our forefathers said something like " I shall meet thee at the cannon on the 4th of July. " I would imagine they would say " Independence Day " . Somewhere, sometime, someone became too lazy to say all of " Independence Day " , and began calling it " July 4th " , ot " 4th of July " . This is my theory. Irvie --- " a M. Guest guest
Or it could have been a matter of people asking . . . . " When is Independence Day again? " Re: 4th of July? Guest guest
That's because 14th of February and the 31st of October is hard to say then the 4th of July, Mexico calls their independence day 5th of May. Guest guest
Actually 5th of May in spanish comes out Cinquo de Mayo which sounds much more romantic that the 4th of July (dam, I promised myself I wouldn't get in on this discussion.) ;-) -marty >>> " " <semiller@...> 07/06/00 08:50AM >>> That's because 14th of February and the 31st of October is hard to say then the 4th of July, Mexico calls their independence day 5th of May. Guest guest
I heard from a co-worker that it was on July the 2nd that the Declaration was signed, but that someone decided that we should celebrate it on July the 4th. And maybe thats why we call it the 4th of July, instead of Independence Day. And if I'm wrong, blame my co-worker:-)

Guest guest
On the subject of the Fourth ... what happens next year, when there's no reason for Canadians to look at July 4 as anything other than another day at the office? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
