Guest guest
I have to agree with . If this person is thinking of writing, an extremely patient editor is desperately needed. Not to mention all that " my people and your people " nonsense, it sounds like she's trying to establish contact with aliens for the first time. I don't mean to sound overly suspicious but I would be weary of granting such an interview to a person that writes this type of e-mail. Guest guest
I received the same email. This kid wants to be a journalists but has no idea how to write. Whats this about " your people, my people " . Are we a different species?? ;-) Thought it was funny. lee Judy Badner wrote: > This was sent to me through my website. > > Judy > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 17:36:39 -0700 (PDT) > From: Ismael Cardenas <thegaragegeek@...> > Subject: re: Interview for Book request > > Ms. Badner, > My name is Ismael Cardenas and I am a Web Developer > interested in joining the writing industry by > publishing a book through iUniverse! about small > people. Guest guest
I was not aware there were so many " hate " groups on the web against little people. I am aware of a couple of mean spirited jokes here and there, but nothing in comparison to the KKK, Neo Nazi's or something. Anyone aware of hate oriented LP websites? Guest guest
I didnt knew about these hate groups on the web. Why he didnt put some addresses so we could check them? I am not a lp but i really didnt like the term " your people " and " my people " . I dont belong to " his people " because i would never separate humans in groups. There is no difference between us! Maybe he had a good intention but was not lucky using terms and concepts. well.. i dont know but i really didnt like it. It made me feel bad about this " people " thing. Instead of putting us together he put us apart and that is what i fight against! I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and maybe as some of you know, i am trying to create an organization here as LPA to give information, socialization and etc... because we dont have anything here - not even a site in portuguese with information - but while it is not done i use my time and all the oportunities to put peoples prejudice away and trying to change their minds about this separation. There is only one people and this is the Human kind. But that seems to be something difficult to understand! Well.. i had to say what i was thinking. Forgive me if i said too much but this kind of thing separates even more the lp from the rest and becoming only one people with no size differences seems more distant. Thank you for hearing me. I agree that caution is wise when a request like this comes along, but I don't necessarily agree that this young person should automatically be given the cold shoulder. It's up to each of us as individuals to decide if we want to go along with something like this. Personally, I don't think I would be interested in doing an interview, but that is just me. Ismael does sound like a sincere young person with a desire to do something positive, however naive he may be. And let's be perfectly honest: from his perspective, he *IS* trying to establish contact with aliens for the first time! It's kind of cute, really. If you choose to reject his request for an interview, I hope you do it gently and graciously. It would be a shame if his first experience contacting little people resulted in us appearing angry and closed-minded. - Dave
Guest guest
Below is the response that I wrote to this young man. I tried to turn him down gently. I am an average-sized person who happens to have a son who is a dwarfed individual, or little person as they preferred to be called. Sorry to say, but I cannot cooperate on your book because I have always felt that such books need to be written by little people themselves and/or their most knowledgeable family members. Dwarfism is so specialized, that, truly, only someone who is very knowledgeable can do justice to the subject. You seem to have correct ideas about little people in general and their abilities and possibilities in this world made for those of us born to be taller, but that is a far cry from being able to do justice to the subject of dwarfism. > >I say this because I don't think that I could do justice to the subject _either_, even after 25 years of knowing and working with little people. I have more than a general idea of what a little person's life is like because I've been living with our son for 25 years, but I can never truly understand _all_ of the emotional ins and outs. And, certainly, having dealt with so many average-sized people in those same 25 years, I can tell you that even the most intelligent ones would also not be candidates for such a proposed project. > >Good luck in any other endeavors, however.! > >Vita Gagne > >At 06:20 PM 5/20/01 -0700, you wrote: >>Vita Gagne, >> My name is Ismael Cardenas and I am a Web Developer >>interested in joining the writing industry by >>publishing a book through iUniverse! about small >>people. Guest guest
I have no reason to doubt this young man's sincerity, but I do want to point out that iUniverse is not a real publisher. It's a vanity press, and authors *pay* to get their work published. Not a very promising project, I would say. I also have to wonder how on the ball he is if the only good dwarfism site he could find was Dwarfism.org. LPA Online pops up readily on Google (widely considered the Internet's best search engine) and (the most popular), as well as in many, many other directories. I understand you're a small person. I am interested in interviewing you for my book. Would you be interested? The goal of this book is let other people know about you small people...something other people know nothing about. I want to let them know that your people are exactly like my people, and there is no need for fear. I bring this up because recently for a project of mine while doing research online I was appauled to find so many 'hate' web sites dedicated to your people.
