Guest guest
No flames here, but some ideas to think about. When our daughter Mandy was three she watch as her dad dressed in his seasonal costume of SANTA. The following day he was going to Mandy's first nurse's home to do Santa. Mandy wanted to go. I dressed her up, red cheeks, pink blouse and red tights, and started a life long committment, MANDY'S CHOICE, to be an elf for her father. I designed her first costume and she is now on her second. She is now 20, and the two of them still go to hospitals, rest homes, and those housings of the homeless, as well as their regular gigs. If someone wishes to look down on her for adding such a service to bring happiness to many whose holidays are at time bleak, oh well. Mandy goes when she wants, and does other things when she wants. Yes, she earns money, yes she is dressed as an elf, but the fulfillment she feels for the good she and her dad offer far outways someone thinking she is bringing down LPs. Her heart is in this 100%, and she also takes advantage to explain to the children she is a dwarf, and answers questions from adults as well. If anything, I think she is GIVING to the Little People of America, and not bringing them down. Just a thought from a very proud mom! -Debi Hoggan --- drc2233@... wrote: > Besides the dwarf tossing...I cringe this time > of year because of the lp's > dressed like elves... > > Did anybody see that Blockbuster ad...With the > lp dressed like Elvis looking > like an idiot.. uuuuggghhhh.... > > I don't want to hear that you can't get good > acting jobs...that's a crock..My > husband is a Television executive who has a lot > of good tv shows that show > case dwarfs... > > Can't you muster up some dignity and not stoop > so low..Really it is > embarassing to the lp's who are trying to break > the stero-type...Who are > trying to rise above people's perceptions... > > BTW- Food for thought- Denzel Washington turned > down the role in Amistad > because he did not want to be portrayed as a > slave... Guest guest
Actually, I liked the Blockbuster ad and didn't see it as a slam on dwarves. Maybe the television industry, so that they can quit ticking off those LPs that can't act, but who think they know better then those who can (and what roles they should take), should follow the Lord of the Rings movie and just start shrinking BPS for the commercials. Then we would listen to nonactors complaining about how lps should have those roles. What it comes down to is that EVERY funny commercial is going to be perceived as an lp actor being demeaned if they are in it. I think that shows a lot of LOW self esteem by us if we think EVERY commercial with an lp is the television industry out to make fun and put down lps. Any x-mas dignity.. Can't you muster up some dignity and not stoop so low..Really it is embarassing to the lp's who are trying to break the stero-type...Who are trying to rise above people's perceptions... BTW- Food for thought- Denzel Washington turned down the role in Amistad because he did not want to be portrayed as a slave... He felt that he and his people have come a long way and should no longer be cast in stero-typical roles...
