How many times have we been greeted at a restaurant with the words " Where have you been? " and it's your first visit? Are these bad situations? No...a bit of mistaken identity of a friendly basis. No mas. But because these situations do happen and our community has such a small population, we are grouped together as one. So as far as our stopping to feel represented by the public disgraces of Jerry Springer's debacles, I will happily do that as soon as the public stops assuming I am the same people on these shows. I know I experience being told every time an LP is on television by well meaning co-workers. A bit of forced bonding, but not a bad thing. What about those folks that we run into as we try to do life's jobs or enjoyments? How many of us cannot recognize the look-nudge-whisper-look that is given us by a group of folks who just happened to be lucky enough to " see a midget? " How dare we want to go to a movie, grocery shopping or an art show in peace! The nerve of us cheeky dwarfs. Do we live in a land of free speech & personal expression? Yes we do and by golly, that's a good thing. (Apologies to those of you who are on the list & outside the U.S. I'm just going with the theme here of Jerry Springer being an American produced show.) But we cannot have freedom if we don't have responsibility and one of the responsibilities is to present ourselves with the respect we deserve as human beings, thus giving our fellow LPs reflected respect in doing so. There aren't enough LPs in the entertainment field who are just your average Joe or Jospehine to slip by with the Springer shows. Put any other group on the Springer show. Do folks think that all white, Southern men are imbiciles who sleep with their cousins & members of the Klan? No. Why? Because there are enough other white, Southern men around to negate that portrayal. I've said it before & I'll say it again, WE DON'T HAVE THIS LUXURY. Why can't LPA make a stand & issue a press release discounting the portrayals of us in such light? We need to look towards those groups who have gone before us to fight for respect such as the NAACP, GLAAD, and the Anti-Defimation League. We need to draw that line in the sand and stop being the world's punchline. Rose
Guest guest
Hey all, I'm " new " here, I was on a while back, but changed addresses and never remembered to come back. Well Here I am! 17 now, graduating high school this year, accepted to 3 colleges already. Now to my input on Jerry springer.. I didn't see " that " episode but i did see one a while back with a dwarf on it. Now they may be setting a bad public example for us but they have the god given American right to do so. And until you, me and everyone stops letting ourselves be represented by the " public image " we will continue to be represented as such! You were not on the show, I was not on the show, And until you and I accept and voice this fact we will continue to be represented by these fools. Arguing amongst ourselves will not help the situation. Unless we are planning a mass assassination of bad public LP reps?? So we should not let this " divide " our group. we may feel differently but as such we must still coexist. For the good of everyone. We all want or need every ones input here on the list, and that is why we are here. Not to squabble over the low levels of our society that should not still exist. You'd think a race would get along within its self before it travels! to th e nearest outer world mass.(the moon) We need to deal with this in every day life, make a decent impression on everyone we meet. But arguing over what's right or wrong when its clearly wrong, wether or not they had the right to do it, is plain wasting time and energy best spent towards meeting and educating new people! They did it, they had the right to do it, what they did was wrong, but we cant change that. We can change the effects they had on our " image " by setting out a stronger positive image. Not by arguing and making hateful comments, suggestions and implications about those who did it, that only makes things worst by dragging us all down. Say hello, shake a hand, make a friend. Guest guest
Goofed up on the mail........ I ment to say good point Rose. May I post a question? How may LP hate the word Midget? I find it offensive but Dwarf I find ok. Or maybe it's the way people address you such as " Are you a Midget? " or " Hey look at the Midget " Just a thought Irwin
Guest guest
Tom, you're wise beyond your years. My dead departed granddaddy taught me years ago, " Don't worry about what people think or say about you. Your family and real friends will know better, and the rest of the world doesn't matter. " ly, the opinion of anyone who would watch a show like Springer, let alone believe it's real, is of total unimportance to me. Guest guest
Those individuals were on the show of their own free will. They knew the show is pure trash and of questionable reality. Did anyone notice a piece of plastic over the lens of the camera when they were doing the cake toss. The point being is that it was all rehearsed and they probably had prompters to show the people what to say. These people had their day in the limelight. They probably live their lives that trashy also but that is their business. I am not condoning it and would not want to be their person al friend and if I recognized one of them at a convention I certainly would not approach them with a hand of friendship. AS A MAN THINKETH SO HE BECOMES. I feel their thought patterns are on the wrong track. Super Elf
