Guest guest
Marta, I agree with you about Jane Brody's article. She does a good job until the last paragraph. I think it is important that we send letters to her about her assertion that there is a definitive test for Lyme and also question the preventive dose she recommended - while still commending her for the rest of the article . The e-mail address of letters to the editor of the Times is letters@.... Ellen
Guest guest
Geri..this is for Susie...Itching I still swear by the Atarax {hydroxyzine } 25 mg. up to 3 times a day. And , SARNA as a quick but short term reliver. For sleep problems...I was put on the Lactulose for that reason...to straighten out my sleep patterns..I would sleep couple hours and be up for a couple and bakc and forth...so I never really got any quality sleep. The lactulose turned it around for me......now I no longer need it...just the Atarax does the job of both itch relief and sleep aid. But.every once in a while I find my sleep getting messed up again and put myself back on the Lactulose for a while .....Meanwhile ..tell her to cut her fingernails and not to take hot showers or tubs.use warm water instead. But, I definitely suggest she call the doctor for Atarax. And remember it is only the Atarax that works...the other antihystamines do not work. Plus, I suggest you find a good gastro that specializes in liver diseases. Or a hepatobiliary gastro. Then, feel free to e-mail me and I will give you links for more info. JJCATHCART@... Guest guest
, I remember the relief I felt about 18 years ago when they finally diagnosed what was wrong with me. And..yes, many of us have several different diseases.mostly different autoimmune diseases. You are far from alone. Myself I have PBC, Sjogrens, Raynauds, and costrachondritis { like arthritis in the rib cage } Just remember you are not alone.......support groups are terrific..a lot of great people who truly care about YOU. Guest guest
Pre-medication before the dentist.....I take Amoxicillin....I take 6 {six } capsules each one 500 mg. about 1 hour before dental appointment. Then take 3 capsules 6 hours later. Now...that I have gotten worse..I have had to continue taking 1 capsule two times a day for about 5 more days. Normally the one day of the 6 before and then the 3 later will do it. It is standard procedure...they do not want us getting an infection...and we get them very easy from dental work. Guest guest
To All, Update I went yesterday for follow-up with my primary doc. What A day!! First, I waited an hour to get to a room, then a strange doc comes in and says my doc isn't there. So, I start explaining my problems and I am clearly agitated! The clinic system is clearly not patient friendly. I calm down and try to explain things. I had a list of things to discuss and questions to ask. She was also, clearing agitated with me. I was there over two hours while she went back and forth with the attending doc on my questions. I am still upset about the entire thing! 1. I was denied a referral for a rhumatologist 2.I was denied a referral for a hepatologist 3.I was referred for physical therapy for my hands and knee 4.I did get a flu shot 5.I got labs to determine if I need hep A & G vaccines 6.I did get a prescription for midrin for my headaches 7.I got samples of celebrex to try for 30days at low dose and then will have liver profiles done to see if it affects the numbers. By the time all of this was done, the pharmacy was closed and I now have to make another trip over there to get my meds. That involves a process that takes about two hours! This doctor then tells me that I have too many issues to address in one appointment and they will see me again in January and address them then. I was livid!!! They ordered a bone density test and I was told that my clinic insurance would not pay for it. So, no test. I was recently diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. The insurance paid for the sleep study, but will not cover the follow up study for the calculations for a c-pap machine and will not cover the machine either! As you can see, it has been a rough week. I went this morning for screening to apply for Medicaid. I have appointment on the 30th. They sent me to the Wages board. It is the law here that I have to register for work with the state to qualify for Medicaid and food stamps. I came home and called social security and was told that I was denied on first pass, but my case was in for state review and a final decision would be made by the 30th of this month. I am ready to scream scream scream! To top everything off and make it a total disaster, I have no heat. My furnace will not start. I can't get the pilot to light and I have called every man I know and no one knows what to do. I called the gas company and they want $75. for a service call. The United Way referred me to the housing partnership here in Jax. and they told me that lots and lots of people did not have heat and the only way they would help me was if I got a letter from a doctor who said it was medically necessary for me to have heat. That is insane to me! I am losing my mind. Forgive for going on and on. I really needed to get all of this off my chest. I am blessed to have this forum to do so. I hope that all of you are having a much better week than I am Thank you for listening to me ramble. Thinking of you all and remembering each of you in my prayers, Ginger AIH and DEPRESSED in the state of FLORIDA
Guest guest
Ginger, One thing my friend of three years liver transplant told me. She has been my coach through my own transplant. She told me that the doctors have it down pat for saveing your life but the docs need to be educated on the life ever after. Well I did not know what she ment, until I have been given the runaround in my follow up care. I don't think I have had one appointment since my surgery that doesn't make me frustrated to the level of wanting to be mean to all of them. In fact I have been mean to some of them. I have had down right fights with some of my doctors. One doctor threw my consent papers at me and walked out of the room for a biopsy. He won. My point is I have had enough of their crap. Insurance or no I demand care anyway. And by the way that doctor and I are friends now. So fight back my dear we are their study cases they need us. I am sorry you are having so many other problems as well. Good thing we are a strong batch. Gayle
Guest guest
Thank you Kathy and , I plan to call tomorrow to arrange for a time to talk to the special ed class. I appreciate any input I can get. Perhaps it might be easier for the others to respond to if I ask a couple of specific questions of those on the list. 1. What has a teacher done for you and/or your child that was most helpful to you? What was most damaging? 2. If you could say anything at all to your child's teacher what would it be? Something to tell about your child's talents and abilities? How OCD impacts on the whole family? Hoe to approach the child when in the throes of an OCD attack? Thanks to all of you. This list is such an invaluable resource. I only wish I had had it to lean on when first started with the handwashing. Maybe then we wouldn't have spent six years trying to figure out what part of the family dynamic had caused the irratonal behavior! Take care of yourselves, as says. Guest guest
In reference to e's reply to Deb about MRI ability to detect ruptures...I agree completely with e. My ruptures did not show on MRI w/ breast coil...or CT....the left side did show as ruptured through ultrasound, but the right did not, and was ruptured. The MRI showed that both were intact...and, I have also had many women report similar results with MRI's in regard to showing whether or not a rupture was present in their implants. Guest guest
i was diagnosed with " A " when i was 17,and am now 22. Dr's in general have made me feel freaky, the first Dr actually brought his interns into the room to watch me feast on the barium meal! recently, the spasms have only worsened, and at my doctors insistence that it was just " nerves " , i actually took prozac for a while---i guess, this is all just in my head LOL LOL! does anyone have any hints on how to deal with the spasms? thanks gina __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I have had "A" since 1968. I've always had spasms, some mild, some just AWFUL. Drinking liquids, room temperature usually helped with both the mild and VERY BAD ones. Before the dilation the spasms were very infrequent so I just dealt with them. Since the dilation I can count on having them almost every day. The doctor is not quite sure whether reflux is causing them or vigorous achalasia. I don't want to have anymore diagnostic tests to find out why, as knowing why probably won't change things much, (even my doctor agreed with this point of view). I have prescriptions for Levsin, the small tablets you let melt under your tongue which you take every four hours, these I use for the mild spasms, when I feel one coming on I take one. I also take prevacid in the a.m. and p.m. for reflux. I have Levsin that is time release and the results last longer than the small tablet. I take one faithfully before I go to bed at night. I do not take the time release during the day, only the under the tongue version as the time release make me very drowsy and dizzy. If I have a major spasm I try to see if it will pass with water, if not I take the stronger Levsin as the pain is so intense I can't handle it. I don't like taking medications like most people don't, but I have resigned myself to the fact that if I want to be pain free I have no other alternative. I was taking Vicodin for the pain but did not want to continue using them for fear of becoming addicted. Levsin is at least not habit forming. Hope this information helps. I also bought the liquid version of arginine which many on this site feels helps with the spasms, but I haven't tried it yet. gina vallery <gvallery@...> wrote: i was diagnosed with "A" when i was 17,and am now 22. Guest guest
Dear Maureen, I think it would be a good idea to get it checked out. It means you are reacting to something and it is better to find out what so you can prevent more reactions. Have you changed laundry soap, hand soap, makeup recently? Hairspray, a new food, a new medicine? If you can't find the cause soon an allergy doctor or naet practioner could help.
