hi mary beth -

i had the same problem with my daughter britney (achon, now 3-1/2). when

she was 2 we went to toys-r-us and were lucky enough to have an awesome

salesman who put 4 different trikes together until we finally found one that

fit (they come in boxes as the smaller ones are usually not all out on

display).

j.m.y. 3 wheel " sparkle " trike model #1240.

it is an 8 " trike and we drilled extra holes in the bottom of the seat to

move it a little bit forward, and put pedal blocks on it (3/4 " pieces of

wood on each side of the pedal drilled through the pedals with sunken

screws). You have to put the wood on each side or it will always flop down

and they can't reach it.

it also has a " dump truck type " bucket on the back which i liked for extra

weight in the back since she tended to sit on the very front of it. we also

got a pair of ankle weights and tied them around the back because when she

took corners fast (she's a daredevil) she would tump over.

for girls it is bright " barbie " type colors - pink, purple, orangish. for

boys they have one exactly like it but in primary colors - red, blue, green,

yellow. the best part is the price - $35 (he didn't even charge us to

assemble it)!

britney's achon friend who is 4 still can't reach the pedals though (his

legs are much shorter) so i found a cute little 3 wheel scooter for him at

toys-r-us in a box also. it is called a " skooter rat " and is very small -

it comes in blue or pink. the only adjustment we had to make was to not put

the rat on top because it stands right in front of where his head falls and

he couldn't see. it is terrific for really short legs and they still feel

mobile!

i might also mention that a helmet is a great thing and we had a hard time

finding one that would fit - but the bell child's bike helmet for ages 5-8

fits great.

britney is so amazing - all's she wanted for christmas this year was a " big

bike " and when we were at toys-r-us she figured out a way to climb up on a

12 " bike and pedal it around the store without blocks (looked hilarious but

she was so thrilled that she could do it)! so how could santa deny her

after such determination! we added blocks and she is a speed demon - we're

going to have to get bikes to keep up with her!

Hello,

My 2 year old daughter with achondroplasia is starting to show interest in

a tricycle. She can't reach the pedals on the one we have. Does anyone have

any suggestions?

Thanks,

Beth

My first bike was a tricycle and I was 7 or 8 years old. I was much

older, and I wanted a bike for a long time. And I finally got one. I

knew kids my age were riding regular bikes and I only had a tricycle.

But I was happy as can be that day.
