Guest guest
Gang: Ok. Before we waste time spending the next two weeks infighting about " to portray or not to portray " ridiculous, and embarrassing stereotypes and villify those who do, stop and minute and think. For once LET'S BE PRODUCTIVE ABOUT IT THIS TIME!!! LPA where are you? Why can't the organization issue an official statement to the press, and to the network that this is not acceptable? Gang, write letters to the network, to the producers. If you hate what you see (like I do, the previews are giving me MAJOR HEEBEE JEEBIES) WRITE. I'm going to. LPA board members, wake up! We are the " Last Minority " that's it's OK to poke fun at. When " True Lies " came out the Arab community was up in arms that, once again, in a big Hollywood movie, the Arabs were the bad guys. Their displeasure made the news, why doesn't ours? Tell them how much it HURTS to be portrayed in such a ridiculous fashion. Tell them that for every stupid look Verne makes (or the forthcoming Mini-Mimi, don't get me started on that one) it rips away another degree of dignity and respect that we've fought SO HARD to EARN. Yes, I know dwarf actors need to earn a living, but to those who have made it to the big time lately, take that windfall and invest it in an education or just invest it. Stop taking these roles until Hollywood writes roles for PEOPLE not LIVING TOYS! You hurt everyone in the community by choosing to be objects of amusement. I'm tired of being hurt. We have come SO FAR but because we are the " last minority " things are rapidly going downhill. So, gang, write letters instead of wasting time fighting for the next two weeks. LPA, issue a statement! Actors, stop HURTING US!!! Just remember that what goes around, comes around. The hurt you cause will come back to you someday. Thanks! -Marty
Guest guest
Here here Marty!! I totally agree with you 100%!! We are the last minority to be left and we are still being made fun of and being shown as ridiculous. The world of average people see us as silly creatures since a lot of LP actors accept parts in Hollywood as baffoons and objects. We have the right to have parts which portray us as educated people or just average actors who can exhibit their talents. It is so sad that Hollywood has deemed us a laughing stock in the movie industry and we let it happen. If we want to be respected and known for our individualism, we need to speak up. Just because we are not of the 'normal' height as so many people classify us, does not mean we have to be held down, or hold ourselves down. Martha Merritts is right everyone, we need to speak out if we want to be counted as members of society. I myself am not in the entertainment business, I worked hard to get to the position where I am now-a veterinarian technician. I wanted to prove to the 'average' world that I have the skills and capability to do a job that I love, working with animals. I would never accept a demeaning job where I have to make a fool out of myself in order to make a living-I have way to much respect for myself and how the world sees us as a whole. I want to prove to the people I work with that just because I am short doesn't mean I am silly or have to accept a mindless job. It is a good feeling to have someone who is of average height to say, " I admire you, I wish I had the knowledge you have about doing this job. " Since many average-sized people cannot handle many jobs out there. If we would work together, we can be recognized as people who can handle responsibility. Guest guest
If you all didn't accept these types of acting jobs then there wouldn't be any negative dwarf sterotypes written into TV shows............. get it!

Guest guest
DRC, You are not in any position to tell any lp anywhere..lpa member or not..what they can do or what type of work they can accept. They do not OWE LP'S or LPA any type of reason for what work they do. Trust me, Ive seen LP janitors and dishwashers and would never look at them as examples.they are just men and women.human beings first and lps somewhere about 5th! They are " portraying " a chacter, not themselevs. They only represent themselves and answer to no one but themselves. GET IT??? Guest guest
AMEN!! What a load of crap ..... dont take certain jobs. GET OVER IT!! We actors ALSO need to make $$ to feed our families and Im NOT representing a group, Im my own person. People are different and you cant keep lumping ALL Lps in together. Thats ridiculous! Im ALL for Lps being portrayed on TV in strong occupations but Im certainly not going to turn down money to play a leprechaun or elf because I know the 6 foot dude isnt going to swap his " bouncer/doorman " role with me. LPs who are in movies/TV need to be good ACTORS first so they can gain respect in that profession so they can have more creative freedom in the roles that are being written. These roles certain LPS are b*tching about are just roles to get us " in the door " (IMO......true for me anyway). I intend on making a difference when I can actually have a SAY in whats going on. By everyone getting their undies in such a bunch we are THEN lumped together has " ALL Little People are going to be impossible and pissy to work with in Hollywood " . So for now......unless it hurts you PERSONALLY chill out because times they are a changing and we can get to where we need to be without shooting ourselves in the foot. lee Drtowna@... wrote: > From: Drtowna@... > > DRC, > > You are not in any position to tell any lp anywhere..lpa member or not..what > they can do or what type of work they can accept.
