Guest guest
Dear List, Hello! I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some insight on toddler beds vs. regular beds for an achon toddler. My son is almost two and I'd like to move him out of the crib but I'm a bit nervous about the distance between the floor and mattress of a regular bed. If anyone has made any modifications for a regular bed, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you for time.
Guest guest
I have a regular bed sans(without) a boxspring. It's only about a foot off the ground, that way if I fall I won't get hurt. This might work for your little little. from: Amy Toddler bed vs. regular bed >From: " kwinsper " <kwinsper@...> > >Dear List, > >Hello! Guest guest
Hi, When my girls were very young, we used their crib mattress set on a frame for their bed. It was vey low to the floor. They were able to climb into bed, and out of the bed. It was perfect. It also left lots of play area in their bedrooms. Good Luck, Patti
Guest guest
Hi , I have OI and I remember falling off regular beds and breaking bones quite well. My step-father and dad got together and converted a youth bed for me. the sawed the legs down so that it was approx. 10 " from the floor. That way if I rolled out of bed I would not break. Now that I am an adult, I sleep in a regular size bed. But for my kid years until I was 14 I had a shortened bed. It does make things easier. Especially when teaching a child to make a bed. If the child is short like I was it makes it so much easier to do things like the " average " size person. Guest guest
We use a toddler bed, the racing car bed by little tykes is great, because it is low to the ground and the tires can be used for foot holds. Guest guest
Hi all... Well as an I've always been on the shorter side of being a dwarf, but I had a canopy bed my grandma bought me when I was three...it stood probably 2.5 to 3 feet off the ground. I had safety rails so myself or my stuffed animals (well that's what I thought they were there for!) wouldn't fall out. My dad build like a three step staircase for me to get up in it. When I turned 15, I got a waterbed. When we were purchasing it, the salesman asked if we wanted to have the factory cut the base of it down to only like 6 " ...so we went ahead and did that, so my bed is about 18 " off the ground. When we were searching for something to take to college, I got a wood day-bed and my dad just cut the legs down on it for me. It stands probably about 18 " off the floor too. So I could make this one everyday (yeah whatever we got a full sized comforter, that we tuck into the back side then I just fold down the covers and get it, then when it's time to make the bed I just flip the sheets and comforter back up and viola! it's the easiest bed to make. Guest guest
For what it's worth, here's another vote for the Little Tikes roadster toddler bed. It's sized to fit a standard size crib mattress. For added protection, there is plenty of room to insert side rails, by the way. Guest guest
Hello, I, too, was concerned about the distance from the floor to the bed. So we moved Dominique out of the crib first to a small mattress on the floor. When Dominique's body became stronger, enabling her to crawl out of a bed, we then placed her in a toddler bed (about age 3 1/2). She still has the toddler bed (now age almost 5). We did place a rail-guard on the side not facing the wall, which she STILL uses. I expect she'll use this bed for a while. I'll let her determine that. Sincerely, Deslie Dominique's Mom (age almost 5, Kniest Syndrome)
