Guest guest
I think that is a GREAT idea! Infact, about a year or two ago, I was thinking of calendars like of Top bachelors and bachelorettes(sp?) of the LPA..Ofcourse no children, 18 and over. It's superficial maybe some think it's shallow, yeah, but it's fun! Why can't we be like everyone else on this earth? I'm sure there are girls and guys(LP's) who " worship " certain other male and female LP's, and now they can have them in a calendar! I was going to sit this one out, but to be honest, it scares the life out of me! We get enough ridicule in life, without asking for it. Just imagine the publicity such a calendar would get. I don't think I'm alone in becoming heartily sick of bad publicity. I just want to lead a normal/average life, be able to go about my business with the same lack of notoriety as everyone else. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm getting tired; tired of the multitude of occasions when we are once more, thrust into the limelight, and usually, for yet another mockable reason. > Why can't we be like everyone else on this earth? I TOTALLY agree with you! But for the reasons given above, we would NOT be like everyone else. It is a plain and simply undeniable fact that we ARE different. It is an equally undeniable fact that Jo public seizes on this fact to make maximum jocularity at every conceivable opportunity. Yes, in the ideal world, we SHOULD be able to do everything exactly the same as everyone else. And that, in the ideal world, would include the publishing of a calendar similar to ones which are gaining popularity at great speed. But we can't! We have come a long way in our endeavours to demand respect and equality in society, but we still have a hell of a long way to go. Stunts like producing this calendar, would, in my mind, just re-inforce the publics opinion that we were only ever put on this earth for the sole purpose of giving the masses their fix of humour. I'm sorry, as much as I would love to see this produced, it ranks high on the list of things we, as dwarfs, would LOVE to do, but can't. Everyone has restrictions in life. Nobody, average or dwarf, can do all they would wish to do. We just seem to have a longer, or different list to Jo Public. Guest guest
Dearest Fred, I can't speak for anyone else on this list about the idea of the calendars. But from my perspective and my idea, I wouldn't want to sell it to the " public at large " . For me, I would only sell it to the LP community. And thats it. Heck no, I would think it would be a farce to sell these calendars next to the likes of Pamela , The Backstreet Boys and Aguilera. We WOULD be laughed of the shelves. Here we are a group of individuals that don't fall into society's stereotypical beauty. Now we are going to select who the better looking Dwarfs are? This is so vain and exploitive. If anything why don't we do a calendar or a book that focuses on the lives of successful (interesting jobs, lives or stories) of our members that just so happen to be dwarfs. It seems to be better than producing something that may satisfy some fetish.
Guest guest
i think that it is a great idea. I would also sell them the the general public. You could always add a little info in the calendar about dwarfs. This would be a good way to educate people. kim
Guest guest
Great idea. How about one featuring well known LP's that both the general public would recognize with fond memories and one that children with dwarfism could view high profile role models as well? Guest guest
Okay, since the subject was brought up....This sounds like a fabulous idea in theory...but in theory only...To benefit LPA the $$ raising idea is a good one...but really I think it opens a whole can of worms for the reason that our general man-on-the-street would find a way to lesson the beauty of this artistic peice you want to put together...I would not recommend it for beautiful women either for the same reasons... Guest guest
What if it was composed of group shots of the different regional chapters? Yes you would have to have more than one picture to a month, but then more people could be in it. Then there would be less of a chance of hurt feelings of " not making it " or accusations of favoritism. Just a whimsical thought.
