Guest guest
19. Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up . . .louder .. . . louder . . . This one doesn't work. Jill Telemarketers Something funny for the list..... www.ummmyeah.com *********************************** What to say when telemarketers call: 1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money. 2. If they start out with, " How are you today? " say, " I'm so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems. My arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died . . . " 3. If they say they're Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where it is located, how long it has been in business, how many people work there, how they got into this line of work if they are married, how many kids they have, etc. Continue asking them personal questions or questions about their company for as long as necessary. 4. This works great if you are male. Telemarketer: " Hi, my name is Judy and I'm with XYZ Company. " You: Wait for a second and with a real husky voice ask, " What are you wearing? " 5. Cry out in surprise, " Judy? Is that you? Oh my God! Judy, how have you been? " Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of terror as she tries to figure out where she could know you from. 6. Say " No " over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each one, and keep a rhythmic tempo, even as they are trying to speak. This is most fun if you can do it until they hang up. 7. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends Plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can, " I don't have any friends, would you be my friend? " 8. If the company cleans rugs, respond: " Can you get out blood? Can you get out goat blood? How about human blood? " 9. After the Telemarketer gives his or her spiel, ask him or her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them it's because you can't just give your credit card number to a complete stranger. 10. Tell the Telemarketer that you work for the same company, and they can't sell to employees. 11. Answer the phone. As soon as you realize it is a Telemarketer, set the receiver down, scream, " Oh my God! " and then hang up. 12. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask him/her if he/she will give you his/her home phone number so you can call him/her back. When the Telemarketer explains that telemarketers cannot give out their home numbers say, " I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right? " The Telemarketer will agree and you say, " Me either! " Hang up. 13. Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times. 14. Tell them it is dinner time, but ask if they would please hold. Put them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure. Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation. 15. Tell the Telemarketer you are on " home incarceration " and ask if they could bring you some beer. 16. Ask them to fax the information to you, and make up a number. 17. Tell the Telemarketer, " Okay, I'll listen to you. But I should probably tell you, I'm not wearing any clothes. " 18. Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. " Come on, Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma? " 19. Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up . . ..louder . . . louder . . . 20. Tell them to talk very slowly, because you want to write every word down. NOTICE: The above have all been tested and approved for use on telemarketers. No animals were harmed in the testing. Guest guest
The best way to get rid of a tellamarketer is to ask them to take you off of the list. They have to otherwise you can sue them. Guest guest
Here is one that worked for me. I basically told the telemarketer that I DIDN'T CARE about saving money. I could hear the pages flipping to find a response...he couldn't find anything in the book to what I had said. As you know some of them have scripts. So he quickly ended the conversation that said .. " Well when you want to save money with our long distance carrier, here's the 1800 number " and then hung up! It was very funny because I just was so annoyed and didn't care at the moment. a
Guest guest
For those of you who do file sharing; i.e. Kazaa, Morpheus, etc... do a search for Tom Mabe. What he does to telemarketers is extremely hysterical. He records the actual conversations he has with them. Be advised though, some of the material is not suitable for children. M. Guest guest
Did it ever occur to you that some of the people that you are making fun of could just well maybe one of our own. There are people out there with limited abilities and skills and are just trying to make an honest living. Here we all are crying the blues how we are being laughed at,mocked and we are doing the same thing to these people. I do find they call at the worst times. All you need to say is please take me off your list and have a nice day. My Parents told me when I was young that " people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones " . Guest guest
One of our Own? Sounds like we are a species now...I just think people are people regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ability, stuture, nationality, religious backgrounds, and so on. I am not making fun of a telemarketer...I was just sharing an experiance that happened to me. That man just happen to catch me at a bad time. I feel bad for them...but at the same time...How many people really like being called in the privacy of their own homes at their own free time to be disturbed by someone who wants to sell them something? WE are all trying to make a living, have a living and support ourselves...and being a telemarketer is one way...but there are other occupations people on this list like to Really BASH more than make fun of...why defend just one occupation? a > Did it ever occur to you that some of the people that you are making > fun of could just well maybe one of our own. As an Inside Sales Representative, I am known as a Telemarketer in the Business world, so I am appalled by the reference that Dan Kennedy made. My profession and all other Telemarketers (of any type-whether they call companies or residents) are honest hard workers. It takes hard work to sell yourself to a company or other person, and having to take the chance of being rejected. Where on the other hand, here we have a LPA member who sells merchandise that exploits who we are-or should I say not, because in no way would myself, my husband or our child ever be caught in public with such degrading shirts that would say " Midget Petting Zoo " . Also, how can we honestly support such merchandise from someone who also promotes Dwarf Tossing-sounds like a double standard that is occuring. Well these are just my thoughts on the subject and as a Recruiter for an Employment Agency-all power to people who use their profession & minds in a positive manner and not just a quick way to make a so called easy buck-because in the end was that $ really worth the humility that you put yourself through and others that did not ask for it? I know that at the end of the day, I can be proud of my profession and also of my husbands as an Associate Producer for the #1 News Station here in Indianapolis! Guest guest
When I really want to mess with then I ask for the name of the company, address, name of the telemarketer and then the supervisor. I ask the supervisors name and let him know that I bill them x amount per minute for my time, how many minutes elapsed and ask if there is a specific department to send my bill. Somewhere in the process they will hang up and I’ve had a good laugh. I wonder if you might not actually be able to bill them if you set up a “listening company.” In California, Kurt is right, we just say take me off your list, they must and it works very well. At this point I may get a call only once a month. Guest guest
Acting in a show as an elf may be degrading to some ppl but they don't LIE to you like telemarketers. Telemarketers are told by their employers to do whatever it takes to sell whatever they are selling and that includes not taking the word 'No " for an answer. You dont know how many times capitol one and providian use to call my house and would keep yapping after I said i wasnt interested. No means no. I told them the take me off thier lists but they don't I finally had to threaten with harrassment charges if they called me again. Annyoing someone to death is not gonna make u buy thier stuff, its gonna make u hate that company. If i ever need a credit card i will NEVER go to capital one or providian, they left a bad taste in my mouth. ~Bon > > >just trying to make > > >an honest living. > > > > No, they're not. Guest guest
> My profession and all other Telemarketers (of any type-whether > they call companies or residents) are honest hard workers. I just love it when something like this statement is made. So, I take it you have polled all the " telemarketing " industry to see what the honesty and hard working data shows? I also take it you have never heard of " boiler plate " operations who use telemarketing as a deceptive method of obtaining credit card information to commit fraud and theft? If the telemarketing industry was so upright and level, why is it several states have " no call list " laws? You may be as " professional " as one can be in the industry, but to say " all other telemarketers " are as professional is a gross overstatement. If telemarketing is such a good thing, why do so many people despise it? M.

When, and in what context, has Danny Black has ever promoted Dwarf-Tossing? Granted, there are a lot of things he's promoted that many people, including myself, don't agree with, but I'm not aware that he's ever knowingly promoted dwarf-tossing. Mr. said such acts - in which people pay to hurl dwarfs onto padded mats - add danger to the lives of all dwarfs. " You go to a nightclub to enjoy yourself with friends and some great big guy walks in and says, ‘You must be the dwarf here for dwarf tossing,’ " he said. Three times, he’s been thrown on the grass against his will. And it’s far riskier for him to crash-land on the ground than for most people of average height. Many dwarfs have chronic back and leg pain that can easily be aggravated by what would be minor injuries to others. >From: <jdybala1974@i...> Date: Sun May 5, 2002 7:53 am >Subject: Re: Re: Telemarketers >When, and in what context, has Danny Black has ever promoted >Dwarf-Tossing? And you're going to tell me that someone being tossed around at a bar, someone walking around at a restaurant with chips and salsa on their heads, or someone making a complete idiot out of themselves at a bachelor party, so drunk average sized men can laugh at them is a legitimate occupation? Every profession has its good and bad individuals in it. I was stating my opinion and defending my occupation and in no way I am saying the jobs that I and others perform are the only hard workers out there. With all that is going on in society, can't we be positive and demonstrate positive and nuturing actions that will help better ourselves and those around us. All that I was trying to point out is before we bash one occupation, let's take a step back and analyze others that we have condoned for the longest time. Guest guest
You can request to be put on a do not call list once a telemarketer does call you. Also check in the beginning of your telephone directory for the agency that keeps you from being on a mailing/calling list. Helen

Guest guest
Here in Colorado, they recently passed legislation that creates a " no-call " list. Simply put, if you are on this list, telemarketers cannot call you. There are a couple of exceptions, one being that if you already have an established business relationship with the company, they can call you, which is why I continue to get calls from Qwest trying to sell me their call-waiting package.. By the way, as of 30 days after the list came online, something on the order of one-quarter of the state's population is on the list.
