Guest guest
Well it's been a while since I've written to the list serve, and I'm sure there are several people that are thrilled that I've acquired some interest besides LPA. But like all good things that must come to an end, I've been quiet too long. It is time for me to express some concerns I have. My greatest fear is that LPA is going to move back to the dark ages, where a few run the organization. I've been told several times, thank you for supporting the SF conference in 2004, I didn't. I supported Reno, because I thought the hotel had more to offer the organization. This does not mean that I won't assist if I am here. But it was not my first choice, or second, or third..... While I was in office there was an idea brought to the table to do away with District Directors, and just have the Board run the organization, included into this Board would be outside Professionals. I personally feel this would be horrible for organization. I think the District Directors are an important part of the organization. They are closer to you the members, than the Execs. They know what's happening in their areas. Members please read by-law amendments carefully in the future. It is real easy to vote for something just because of who wrote it. As a member it is important to stay informed. When certain people in he organization begin to believe their own PR (they are the only ones that know what's best for the organization) The members I trully believe know what they want in the organization. If the Exec's choose not to listen, then they have made the organization a cult with a leader, and a bunch of sheep;.I believe that the majority of people of in LPA ( short stature, their parents, lovers, husbands, wives), etc. are too smart for this to happen. If not, then maybe a new organization needs to be formed. When people decide to run for office because the person in office the previous year did not give them the support they felt they needed against the President and the board, then I don't feel that they are running for the good of the organization, but more tit for tat. When a job description a couple of years ago was written for an Executive Director with one person in mind, and that person only being of short stature, then we are not only threatening our non-profit status, but we are discriminating against our average size member that many would make a good Executive Director. How can we as an organization that gets up in arms when we are discriminated against, condone the same behavior. I refuse to support this. So in answer to some of your questions: no I'm not dead, yes I'm still having fun, I've been having fun. I have discovered that it is very freeing not being an officer. I'm not sure if I'll be in Toronto, it might be fun to know that I can sleep late, or be my charming self to all :-) So in closing, please stay informed as members of LPA. It is part of your responsibility as a member. To you officers, remember your responsibility is to the members, not to each other. Good luck.
