Hi everyone, I'm Kathy from Washington State...I think this was the group I

was on a year or so back???? Anyone remember? LOL! I do recall that we were

suppose to post at least once a month, is this a different group?? a's

name rings a bell...so I think I am with the right group...

Just wanted to say Hello, and to comment on pain meds...wasn't there a big

" to do " recently about how Dr's are now being trained to treat people with

pain and to prescribe more freely??? Just curious, as I have been on pain

meds alot longer than a few months!

My RA has been a continually challenge....I have been on MTX, Arava,

Azulfindine, Cyclosporine and am now on week 14 of Gold shots....I seem to

plateau and then go downhill or my liver starts acting up and I need to be

taken off of the medication.....

I am 37 and had a bone density test....I am have borderline Osteo, thank you

Prednisone! I am on anywhere from 5-10 mgs of Prednisone, but really can't

function without it some days...with three kids 6 and under and a husband

that is in the Navy and gone alot, one has to function......

Okay, enough rambling........nice to be here (or be back :) )...

,

your words " they don't know enough about drug options " is scary. went

from the age of 4 to just last year without pain meds other then NSAID and

asprin before that. He last 2 rhuemys didn't think he should be on pain meds

that he was to young for them and by the time his JRA moved into adulthood

there wouldn't be anything that would work for him. They had me conviced that

pain meds would hurt him more then help him. I watched him suffer and cry and

i did everything i could to help him with warm baths, heating blankets, extra

clothes, good thought threapy. This rhuemy said that pain meds are needed to

help until they can get him into remission. He was so angry when he found out

that never got any. he told me that pain itself can cause depression

and mood swings and just plain sick on top of the jra and lung disease. I

have to say that if they tried to take away jesses pain meds then i would

have to have his lawyer take it to court cause he just can't function with

out it and he just cries and lays there not moving and i have to help him

bath and go to the bathroom, hold his cup etc. you know what i mean.

Welcome back, Kathy!

Yes, you were part of our group before. I saved your intro post dated

10/30/99. Let me know if you would like me to forward a copy to you!

We did have a rule about posting every so often before, but no longer.

Sorry you are still struggling to get your RA under control. How are

you sleeping lately? In October of 1999 you said that you were having

sleep problems.

Yes, doctors are supposed to be learning how to more effectively

prescribe appropriate pain medication for their patients (and without

government interference). I just posted several links on the topic.

I'm not sure if you'll ever see them in your mailbox.

seems to be acting up a bit today for me. You can always go to the

archives.

Glad you have returned.

Yes, Kathy, I think that there are many reasons, and fear is one of them.

Ignorance is another. Ironically, many physicians lack a true understanding

of the nature of pain and how important it is to treat it. Sometimes, too,

they don't know enough about the drug options available.
