Tina,

Your question was which drug to you try first? Any good ideas?

I think it all depends on the body. With some people Plaquinil works and

some it won't. Rely on

you RA Doc for advice here. I found the progression of drugs used have been

selected because of

price. For instance, I could not take ARAVA until I failed Methotrexate.

ARAVA is about $10. a day.

Also, pill form of Methotrexate is cheaper than shot form. My new RA Doc

switched me to shots

immediately when he met me. He said I was on pill form only because it was

cheaper. He feels

the shots are better and more effective.

Does anyone know the point test for Fibro? Is there a site that explains

it. My Rhuemy pushed on my

muscles around my joints last visit and I am tender everywhere he touched.

I wonder if he was

looking for something else? He keeps pretty quiet on my visits. He blamed

the tenderness on my

prednisone. Said I have to get off of it this year..... Slowly but surely.

Talk to you all soon.

Pat,

This site has the diagnostic criteria from the American College of

Rheumatology

and a chart to show the tender points.

THE POINT SYSTEM YOU REFER TO IS , THERE ARE 18 POSSIBLE PLACES THAT WILL BE

TENDER ON YOUR BODY, AND IT DEPENDS ON HOW MANY OF THESE PLACES ARE TENDER.

I HAVE 16 OF THE 18 TENDER POINTS. TO BE CLASSIFIED AS FIBRO.

Pat,

Thanks for the advice, I'm curious to see what he's going to recommend, so

I'm trying to find out as much as I can before the appt. so hopefully I'll

have a better understanding.

The steroids are great pain relief, but I too don't want to be on them long

term.

I'll keep you posted.
