Hi a,

Well I have finished the first week of school. I think I took on too

much, but I am staying with it. I was okay until last night. I didn't

realize the class ended at 10 o'clock and this teacher announced if you

miss one class just withdraw. If you don't he will withdraw you. With the

way I have been feeling and all the hospital stays, I hope I last. I guess

anymore trips to the hospital will have to be done from Friday to Monday.

I think I should look into some online classes.

I was doing okay eating but now things are not so good. I just don't feel

well again when I eat, I hope the infection isn't starting up again. This

is how I felt before, guess it is time to get the stent out. I just think

I have to keep going, now I am worried about my school schedule.

I just heard my daughter-in-laws dad got SS disability. He applied in

December, no lawyer, no going to SS doctors and he was approved. I think

it was actually right over the phone. I am glad for him, he has a bad

heart.

How you and are feeling better.

Hi a,

I wish they would find out too. The thing is they know what is wrong, I

have a bile duct narrowing. They thought it was from a tumor or mass but

there is nothing there. So the U. of P. feels when I had the first attack,

I passed a stone and now there is scar tissue. I have ask why not take out

the scar tissue but they can't. The operation they would have to do

involves taking 10 inches of the large intestines and a piece of the

pancreatis. Well I would think I could become a diabetic if they mess the

pancreatic organ. This surgery is not done very often. Once they take the

stent out the bile duct will probably start narrowing more. It is such a

mess, I am still going for another opinion. My primary felt the U. of P.

was the second opinion, I don't.

I feel like I am living with a time bomb. Now I don't feel as well as I

did. Before I went to the U. of P. I was able to eat better than I was,

since then I feel like things are getting worse. I am waiting for the

results of blood test I had done to see if the infection was back. If it

is I may have to go back into the hospital, it is all such a pain in neck.

Hope you guys are feeling better. It is so cold out tonight, I couldn't

wait to get home to my warm bed.

Me Mom ,

I am glad you're going for another opinion. I understand what happened to

the bile duct, but with the stint in, why are you still feeling sick after

eating? That's what I don't understand. This really is a mess. I'll keep

you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi a,

I am worried too but I think I have taken all the tests that can be taken.

I have to call and get the stent out. Since the last scope I have felt

worse, the blood work said there is no infection. I don't think I agree

with that though but I guess it would show up. I think my primary is a

little annoyed with me. He knows I am putting off getting the stent

removed, plus he felt I should have taken the semester off. He is not the

one sitting home, I have to have something to do especially with WC on my

back all the time. Funny he was so against the surgery and now I think he

feels it is the only answer.

Sometimes it is hard going to a doctor you have known for thirty years,

sometimes I think he thinks I am a kid.

Hope you and are feeling better. Have a good day,

Me Mom ,

Maybe it's time to see another doctor, the one you wanted to see. Your

primary is just that, PRIMARY! He is NOT a specialist. Seeing the doctor

that you really wanted to see will be your second opinion.

This is much to serious to not be aggressive with. We want you to feel

better, and it seems you are getting worse instead of better. Go to the

Mayo, go wherever you have to go. Please think about it.

We're all feeling better here thanks. I hope I hear you say that soon!

hugs,

a

LaVina,

I had both knees operated on at the same time, but one was replaced and the

other had pins and plates taken out. 3 months later after the holes from the

pins and plates healed, I had that knee replaced. I had broken my leg 10 years

earlier when my knee gave out while trying to get on a bicycle. It was broken

right above the knee, and it had to be plated.

Doing both at one time has advantages and disadvantages. I don't think I would

do it again because it was to hard on my arms and shoulders. I never had any

problems with my elbows, wrists or shoulders until I had these surgeries. I

don't know if it was just a coincidence, but I don't think so. It was very

stressful on everything. For people that have problems with anesthesia, having

both knees done may be safer. Also for people with osteoarthritis, since it

isn't a systemic disease that flares and spreads. In my humble opinion, it

depends on the overall health of the person. My MIL had both of hers done

when she was in her early 70's. She is now 81 and still going strong. She

has no regrets about having both done.

If your mom is in good health other than the OA, she may want to consider doing

both. The PT afterwards isn't as bad as you think. After the first 2-3 days,

the pain she is in right now is probably worse than the pain of TKN. I had the

morphine pump for the first 2 days and it was wonderful. I had complete

control of my pain medicine and I feel it helped a lot with rehab. I was an

inpatient at a rehab hospital for 2 weeks for each replacement. I think it

depends on the doctor if someone is admitted to a rehab hospital or not. Mine

did because of having RA. I really hope your mom can have them done. It

honestly has been a 90% improvement for me. It's been 3 almost painless years

and I would do it again. Now if other joints could be replaced, I'd be REALLY

happy!

a - did you have both your knees replaced at the same time??????? My

mother has very bad osteoarthritis - can barely get around and her knees are

horrible - swollen and huge - she can't take any meds except for Excedrin and

once a week Voltaren because of the side effects - I keep trying to talk her

into seeing a Dr. and maybe getting TKR if possible - seems like it might be

easier for her to just get them both done at the same time too - I don't know

though with PT and all afterwards -
