Guest guest
TO ALL GOING TO THE FDA HEARING: Unfortunately, we can not afford to go to DC for the upcoming FDA hearing. Last we heard, Charlie Carpenter was going to go...he takes with him our permission to speak of B.J. and his story - although he certainly has his own issues with ADs and is certainly under no obligation to speak of B.J. Everyone can feel free to give our email address to anyone you think might benefit from having a conversation with us. We submitted B.J.'s story to the FDA around Thanksgiving time, and had already posted messages to them twice in the past - immediately after we joined the Crusaders and found out we could do so and before the child/adolescent suicidality hearing. We are thrilled beyong belief that the FDA is finally having a hearing to disabuse people of the thought that these drugs are A-OK for adults. Our son was 21 and immediately had adverse reactions to Effexor XR - from the first dose. There is no " magic age " at which these poisons become beneficial. Please know that you all take with you our strongest prayers that you will be successful; that eyes will be opened and ears will be able to hear the truth of the tragedies that we have all endured. I love the " We are not anecdotes. We matter. " button idea. Just the kind of catchy, sound-bite type message that people can grasp. If anyone wants to pull B.J.'s picture off the Crusaders page and put him on a button, please feel free. If anyone who is going would like a copy of a flyer I put together about B.J., please email me off-group (nandtbearden@...) and I will send it to you. We are just a middle class, working family trying to put our daughter through college. (We earn too much for financial aid, but not enough to be able to afford to pay hard, cold cash for her college easily.) We hope that someone, while urging the FDA to do the right thing about these drugs, will be sure to mention that the last thing we need to do is abruptly impose a ban. The people currently taking these meds will need a lot of help getting off of them. They can not be thrown into the nightmare of abrupt withdrawal. A black box warning is one step shy of a ban. We need to be proactive and make sure there is a plan for helping people wean off their meds, if a ban is discussed. Finally, GO, TEAM, GO!!!! We are there with you in spirit. We appreciate your efforts. We pray for success! and Terry Bearden " ...There are certain things in our nation and in the world about which I am proud to be maladjusted and about which I hope all men of good-will will be maladjusted...Through such maladjustment, I believe that we will be able to emerge from the bleak and desolate midnight of man's inhumanity to man into the bright and glittering daybreak of freedom and justice.
