It is feared the £10,000-a-time treatment added to a mountain of debt that may have helped pushed him over the edge on Monday. Mr Case was said to have been tormented by debt Mr Case, 33, killed two-and-a-half-year-old Phoebe, 18-month-old Nereya, and stabbed to death his 31-year-old wife before hanging himself at their home. It also emerged yesterday that the toddlers may have been asphyxiated and not fatally knifed as previously thought. It is thought Mr Case had convinced himself that he was about to lose everything as he struggled to cope with the 'pressures of modern society'. Friends have told how they feared that the couple were living beyond their means in the weeks and months leading up to the tragedy. Both drove relatively new cars - a Land Rover and top-of-the-range Volkswagen Golf - and enjoyed a good social life. Mr Case had opted for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) debt management plan in September 2006 in a bid to pay off his creditors. This can be taken out by anyone in England and Wales with a total debt of more than £15,000 but who is still in receipt of a regular income, and allow them to pay off a percentage of their debts. All four bodies were discovered by the children's grandmother Haskell, 56, who had been unable to reach the family by phone earlier on Monday morning. Shortly after 11.20am she entered the house before running into the street screaming: 'They are all dead - my babies are dead.' Further post mortem tests are due on the girls.
