Guest guest
I support the efforts to stop drugging our children, stop drugging juveniles, stop drugging our soldiers. Even though the 1.4 billion dollar settlement by Eli Lilly, was largely due to the fact that Lilly hired extra sales representatives to market the drug Zyprexia off label to nursing homes, I see no activity to stop the ongoing abuse; and, too little concerns about doing so. I know the drugging of nursing home residents is on going, as I communicate with a very qualified nurse who works in the nursing home industry. So why then are the vulnerable nursing home residents completely left out in the testimony from advocates which recently went before the legislature. When I send information and concerns to SSRI, I get little to no comments and rarely an expression of concern. Even before many of the facts about the abuses and frauds of drugging our vulnerable nursing home residents became public, I tried to get assistance from CItizens Commission FOr Human Rights, as I fought to save my mother; and I received no help. Even though the settlements with Attorney Generals through out the U.S. and in Texas included damages for the state for money spent due to the drugging of nursing home residents and the harms; little to no attention is given. Pennsylvania actually estimated the number of nursing home residents who died prematurely due to the atypical drugs; but, in Texas there has been no release of such data. Who cares about our elderly and other vulnerable nursing home residents? Who or what group has decided that this vulnerable group don't deserve to have human rights and protections? If I appear angry, it's because I am angry and disappointed in everyone who appear to dismiss all concerns about this vulnerable population. My mother was tortured worst than what's allowed prisoners of war from 2001 until she was euthanized in 2004, and though I left no stone unturned as I fought to save her, not one (so called) advocacy group would help. uniteforlife ; madnap ; babywhys ; SSRI-crusaders ; ProzacAwareness ; Atypical_Antipsychotics ; ProzacAwareness From: amyphilo@...Date: Wed, 25 Mar 2009 16:51:43 -0700Subject: Fw: [wildestcolts] brief report on Texas legislative effort You will all be very interested in this bill to require prior authorization for antipsychotics for children under 11 in Texas. Check out Dr. Breeding's brief. I also blogged about this on my blog last night. (my flyer at http://www.wildestc olts.com/ safeEducation/ antipsychotics. pdf). Doesnt' sound like much to ask to require pre-authorization on teh most toxic, dangerous drugs given to chidren today, does it? But the way the psych lobby came out in force and acted like we were going to line them up agaisnt the wall and shoot them all.... I think they know this little bil would actually protect thousands of Texas children from antipsychotic drugs! Plus we are throwing down the gauntlet with two other bills in juvenile justice and foster care (see legislative initiatives here: http://www.wildestcolts.com/safeEducation/safe.html). Anyway, we had to sit through a grueling amount of psychiatry speak, and uncertain or defensive legislators, and all that. If you have never experienced this, you really should go to this webpage: http://www.house. state.tx. us/committees/ broadcasts. php?session= 81 & committeeCode =410 then click on the regular session at this time, and you can watch the actual hearing: 03/24/0912:50 p.m. - 10:21 p.m. for our bill fast forward to about hour 3:30:30; it goes on for 3 hours. my own testmony comes in around 6:04. I am very grateful for the awesome testimony of several folks, like Duane Sherry and Amy Philo of Dallas, Dr. Krenie Stowe of the Houston area, Josh Boydstun of Family Support Services, Judy of Parent Guidance Center, Lee Spiller and Dewitt of CCHR-Texas, Dr. Moira Dolan, pharmacologist Jim O' Donnell from Chicago, a young foster care alumni who was terrific, and others i am forgetting in my after fatigue. In any event, you can hear some awesome testimony if you so desire. It felt brutal to me, but we had an effect. They are going to have a special interim commmitteeee hearing on the issue, for one! And the bill is still alive, though not yet out of committee, so we still have work to do. fyi here again is the list of committee members and calls would be great especially to The Chair, Lois Kolkhorst and the Vice Chair, Elliott Naishtat. Thank them for taking on this crucial danger condition for our children and let them know to be very sure to pas that bill out of committee asap! thanks, john Bill HB2163 requires Medicaid preauthorization of antipsychotic drugs for Medicaid children under age 11. It is vital that this bill is passed into law to protect children.
