Conspiracy trial hears about bondage, domination, S & M and online shrews

The bizarre nature of bondage, domination, sado-masochism which has now expanded

to " online shrews who blackmail clients " was revealed Tuesday in intimate detail

by a leading American psychiatrist at a murder conspiracy trial.

Dr. Park Elliott Dietz, a former clinical professor at UCLA, was testifying at

the trial of former Metro News baron Petraitis and dominatrix

Rinella.

Petraitis, 68, and Rinella, 47, are accused of conspiring to kill Petraitis'

longtime wife, , by hiring Rinella's ex-lover, Kerry Bob , a

convicted killer and biker, in 2003 and 2004.

The prosecution is alleging the plot was real. was paid over $100,000,

although he testified he was never going to murder anyone.

The defence is that Petraitis and Rinella were merely role-playing in the

context of a dominatrix-client relationship that the couple enjoyed for several

years.

The defence is there was no serious criminal plot to kill Petraitis wife of

almost 40 years.

Dietz, who is an expert in this area, was called by defence counsel Eddie

Greenspan to explain that normal people engaging in S & M, bondage and domination

are " safely, staging and playing out scenes of harm, humiliation, avenging or

triumphing over others without actually experiencing these acts. No one is

actually hurt. "

These scenes are scripted and carefully staged, creating the illusion of danger,

which excites and arouses the participants, said Dietz.

" It is very theatrical and ritualistic, " he explained.

Petraitis, whom testified was wearing a dominatrix diaper when he was

surreptitiously audiotaped by as he discussed the murder plot. A photo

of a model wearing a similar diaper was admitted as evidence at this trial.

Dietz said there is a plethora of " infantilists " men pretending to be helpless

babies.

This is a subculture of the S & M lifestyle that swelled up in the last three

decades.

Adult-sized diapers, plastic pants and paraphernalia are being sold to the group

known as the " Diaper Pail Fraternity " across North America.

And the world of S & M attracts normal people, including those in positions of

power and authourity, said Dietz, who has consulted on behalf of state and

federal prosecutors in such notorious cases as Dahmer and Hinckley.

In the last few years, Dietz described a new phenomenon of men going online to

send " blackmail " cash to women known as " online money shrews, " who in exchange

for cash, verbally abuse them.

The " shrews " vow to expose the men's kinky proclivities to their wives or

girlfriends if the men stop paying. There are several websites promoting the

" blackmail " scheme, said Dietz.

He will continue testifying Wednesday.
