She'll also tell you about her daughter's deadly addiction. " She also could do just about anything well and she also thought she could do drugs pretty well. " She took one 80 mg pill of oxycontin. She had crushed it, which deactivates the time release and had snorted it, which is the typical way. " Since then, has channeled her grief into warning other parents of the dangers of prescription drugs, at events like a drug forum at Madison East high school Wednesday. " I think is the epitome of a wounded healer. We talk about someone who takes that energy, and the rage and pain of grief and turns it into a positive action, " says Besty Hambrick, the AODA violence prevetion teacher at East high school. " I did not want parents to go through what we've gone through as a family and there's information I have through my experience and insights, it's valuable, " says Zdeblick. Most of us have some type of pain reliever in our medicine cabinets. " The Madison school district plans on putting on more forums like this to inform parents, but they face an obstacle getting parents to come, because no one wants to believe their child could turn to drugs. Zdeblick says she didn't want to believe it, until the truth stared her in the face - that drugs like oxycontin, meant to heal, can kill. Wednesday's forum was the first in a three part series. The next one, on alcohol and teens is February 22nd at Memorial high school. A forum on Methamphetamines is April 5th at the MMSD administration building. Guest guest
IT wasn't clear: was the dose she took considered abuse of the drug? Was it overdose or a 'normal' dose? Morphine is another prime example of a drug used to stop pain but which can kill when used in overdose.

Guest guest
Hi Bow, It mentions that an 80mg Oxycontin tablet that is probably designed to desolve slowly was crushed and snorted causing an overdose. It looks to me like the mechanism for slow release was worked around accidentally killing the poor girl. Jim IT wasn't clear: was the dose she took considered abuse of the drug?
