Guest guest
Yes, Brigitte, the same thing happened to me. Early in the course of my illness (whatever it is), I had more days when I had a fever than days when I didn't. There were days when I felt uncomfortably hot before rising from bed in the morning. My symptoms were more pronounced as well - more stiffness, more swelling, more pain. Now I don't get fevers very often and my symptoms are less severe than they were. For me, the fevers seem to correlate with my level of inflammation. Do you have less inflammation now? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Brigitte.Beckmann@...> < egroups> Sent: Monday, January 01, 2001 8:52 AM Subject: [ ] low grade fever > <<i run a low grade fever almost every day. kathy>> > > Hi Kathy, > > so did I. Guest guest
Hello, Brigitte! Yes, it's been a little longer than four years since I had my first visit to a rheumatologist. No doctors agree on what is going on. I know you understand the frustration. Good luck tapering off the steroids. I'm not sure firsthand about the pain involved when trying to get off of them because I've never taken them. I hope someone else in the group will answer. I have read that prednisone withdrawal pain can occur during the tapering process as well as when you are completely off of it and that the pain is very similar to that of fibromyalgia pain for some people. In fact, some people are told they have fibromyalgia when, in fact, they are experiencing prednisone withdrawal symptoms. Let us know how it goes. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Brigitte.Beckmann@...> < egroups> Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2001 12:30 PM Subject: [ ] low grade fever > <<Yes, Brigitte, the same thing happened to me. Guest guest
Brigette: May I can answer questions about tapering off Prednisone. I have been tapering off for a very long time now. The key to tapering is to go very very slow. I will drop 1 mg. and stay there for weeks. I may experience some joint and other pain but it does subside. After it subsides for awhile, then I will drop 1mg. again and do the same process. I have tapered now from 20mg. to 7mg. and it has been months. There is also a method called pulsing. I used to have the details on pulsing but lost it when I changed providers. It is like dropping 2mg. 1-3 days and then going up 1mg. for a couples more and then dropping again. There is a special way of doing this though and maybe somebody else here knows it. So far my method is working quite well for me, plus I am now off all other meds for RA. I do have fibro which acts up sometimes but that is nothing compared to RA pain. The fibro is consistently present when my husband tries to rub my back, arms or legs too hard. The tissue is very very sensitive to pressure. There are various spots all over my body that can only be touched lightly. The cats cannot walk on my thighs or I hit the roof with pain (particularly more towards my inner thighs). My upper arms are very sensitive and many many areas on my back and most of my neck. Wierd stuff!!! Jeannette
Guest guest
Dear Jeannette: Now I know why I can't stand to have my cat walk on my legs or thighs. (Thankyou so much for this info.) It's because of the Fibromyalgia that I have too. My cat does the same thing yours does Jeannette and I would jump from the pain. I didn't realize it was the Fibro. I guess I can still learn something new everyday. Also, I remember pulsing too and can't find my intructions on that either. I am down to 5 mg. of Prednisone. I tried many times to go off of it. I went very slow too from higher doses. I even go down to zero a couple of times, but then I couldn't walk and the pain was so bad I couldn't stand it. So I had to go back on. I was put on 10 I think then and I got down to 5 now but I am staying there. No sense in doing that I again for me. I just couldn't. I have been on it for 15 years. I need it for my Asthma too, so that is another reason I have to stay on at least 5. I wish you good success in getting off the prednisone. Sincerely, Anjillah@... Guest guest
- The rheumatologist I saw at Mayo said that when one has been on prednisone for a long time - that reducing the dose from 10 to 5 is a good step in reducing side effects ( his game plan for me.) He said there would be very little sense to reduce it lower because for example the lessening of side effects say at two or three might not reduce side effects but might reduce mobility. sounds like you have agood plan there - especially with your other health problems. Guest guest
Thanks : About the info on the prednisone. It was good to hear that. I know I can't get along without it. Have a good day at work. Sincerely,

Guest guest
Well a jared woke up with a fever this morning and started vomiting as soon as i gave him meds. he refuses to take anything else for fever of throwing up so i have to wait until jason gets home so we can give him tylenol. it takes me and jason and robert to give him meds. there is no way of convincing to take it but we try in the end we have to hold him down and plug his nose and hope he doesn't spit it out at house. we usually wear most of it. he has been that way since he was a baby. must be that latino blood of his. lol. any way i have done other things to keep his temp down like a ice bag on his head and a cool bath and that has helped some so i will keep it up until jason gets home. is still running a temp. about 100.5 to 101. he is a bit dizzy and confused cause he hasn't eaten much in the last 4 days but he is doing very well with the fluids. he now has diaherra really bad so i have added imodim to the list of meds for him. its helping a little. the cough is not good gives him a headache and hurts his eyes so i am making sure he gets the cough meds. get this, he thinks he is gonna go to school tomorrow. i said i think not. he is afraid of getting behind in his classes. the girls are calling to check up on him. they miss him. iam sure the rest of the house iam sure will get it. hopefully jesse won't, he is just now feeling much better and has gone back to school. i think if he got it he would be really bad off. about the convulsions, the ER told me that kids that old don't go into convulsions that its kids under 3 years of age. i like you know different. i have spent many years working in nursing homes being a specialized CNA on skilled units. i know better then that. i pretty much got the impression that they just wanted to get him out of the way and the peds office wasn't much help. i decide that if i could keep his temp down here at home and keep the fluids in him and treating the cough and diaherra under control that he would fair much better. he is better and he is relaxed not stressed out like he was in the ER. if he is still not feeling well tomorrow then i am going to take him to the peds dr cause the do have the clinic open until 12:30am and on saturdays. i just feel that having a fever for more then a couple of days means that something is wrong and since it was so high for almost 36 hours means iam going to sit in that office with or without an appointment and give them a reason to worry cause i will not be told nothing is wrong when i know there is something. the flu has been so bad around here that drug stores have 6 to 10 hour waiting time to fill a prescription. iam lucky to have a great pharmacist and will fill ours right off. thanks and hope every one is feeling well and not in to much pain. shelly and the kids

Guest guest
Rhode, yes in the past we have tired this with jared and you would have to see personally the fight he gives. for a little guy he is very strong. if i can't get meds into his mouth then there is no way he will let me put it in his butt. lol. the last time we did that we had to hold him down with a pillow under his butt and hold his butt cheeks together so he couldn't push it out. he screamed for about 20 mins straight and when he screams the neighbors can hear him 2 houses over. but when jason got home we were able to get him to take the tylenol and he was sick enough not to fight us much. jason held him and i got it in his mouth and boy what a difference in him when the tylenol to affect. he actually played.jason is home sick today too so it should be easy to keep jareds temp down. shelly
