Guest guest
Jasmine, We're in a PR war. the stakes are billions on one side and lives on the other. We have the truth on our side while they have the money to bury many things. Keep talking to people on the bus, in the street, at parties and newsgroups. That website is strictly a PR campaign tool like many other websites and " non-profits " who are there to " help " the mentally ill. Jim I just discovered this HORRIBLE website, schizophrenia.com, which is huge and totally pro-medications. I tried to post about the recent zyprexa controversy with the link to where the zyprexa memos were on the web, and totally got my post deleted without any explanation. It was SO SAD, everyone. There is NO opportunity to be an informed, critical health care consumer. People who have been diagnosed are being treated like small children. How overwhelmingly paternalistic! I posted asking them why my missive has been deleted, but don't know if I'll get a response. If nothing else, its just plain rude.

Guest guest
Jim is so right. We have to change minds one-at-a-time - in our homes, our offices, our places of worship, on planes, trains & automobiles. Think global - act local. Eventually, right will prevail but many more lives will be lost and many more fortunes made before that day. And then there will just be some hot, new pill-of-the-day that we'll have to fight. The people of today are so convinced that there is something physiologically wrong with them - just as I thought about my son - that they are totally accepting of taking meds for their " chemical imbalances. " We have had an impact in the past on at least one website - www.save.org - which used to have the insane rantings and B***S*** of Dr. ph Talley who had been stripped of his license and charged with crimes concerning illegal/improper prescribing of drugs in another state. When we started emailing them about this guy, their director responded that he would look into the situation and they pulled his stuff off their website. They are still very pro-meds but at least we know that we were able to affect them in some way. And the email discussions I had with their director seemed to have an impact on him. This was months ago and when I checked their website before posting this message, the " Depression Informational " page Dr. Talley had written is still being " updated. " I would like to think that's because I told their director that if he allowed BS to be posted, we'd be back. And i also stressed the importance of being aware of the negative side effects and increasingly severe warnings that the FDA is issuing about ADs. I have had life-changing experiences with total strangers in stores, on planes, and just about everywhere else you can imagine. So, Jasmine, take heart. We can and are making a difference. We are just tiny little s fighting many Goliaths. Like , though, we are passionate and believe in our cause and abilities. And like Goliath, they are too big for their own good. Guest guest
We've recently moved to rural Ireland after living in urban, terraced houses in England for 7+ years. We have much to learn about country living. Much indeed.. Total idiots , really. Having an open fireplace( fuelled by turf) is wonderful, in our rather drafty little house. We're totally fascinated by peat/turf as the locals call it.. Amazing stuff. The boglands are a stone's throw away. What do ex South-African s know about turf fires anyway! Perhaps a sign that small things amuse small minds :-) Just before Christmas a local farmer delivered a trailer load right in front of the peat shed, as the roof prevents tipping it inside. After he left, we giggled and gasped. There it was was..our own peat Mount Everest. So big we had to climb over it to gain access to the shed in order to start shifting it inside.Risking spraining an ankle or knee in the process. The wet Irish weather was giving us a generous, welcome gap. We started full of enthusiasm and in good spirits. Enjoying the exercise and fresh air. Firstly focusing on the nice large, long chunks . Alf built a 'wall' with those ,which I then filled with smaller chunks tossed in , one-by-one..We both scanned the heap for the long pieces, feeling a slight sense of 'achievement' as those were moved. One hour into the shift, I stood back, and observed our progress... It was disapointing to say the least. We could barely notice any change..After a whole hour!!!How long was this going to take?? " Good heavens " I thought, panicking slightly " this is not unlike battling Big Pharma! " So much effort by many willing, motivated souls, and yet so little obvious progress... Straight away we continued. Middle aged backs starting to ache more than just a little.Taking no breaks whatsoever, with one eye on the cloud build-up, in an ever darkening sky. Then we started noticing a wee l-i-t-t-l-e gap appearing at the spots we focused on.We're getting there! It was encouraging. Toss, toss, toss...We chipped and chiselled away. Eventially the long pieces were gone, the chunky ones were becoming scarce, and after 3 hours only smaller bits and 'sand' were left. It started drizzling. The sandy bits were scooped up in buckets.E-n-d-l-e-s-s buckets full. We were totally exhausted by now and quite frankly totally fed-up, but continued anyway. And then it was FINALLY over!!! Halleluja!! Oh the JOY and sense of achievement that last bucket full provided.. Indescribable.. 4 SOLID hours later!!! The beast was slain..:-) Goliath met his match! Imagine if we had a few thousand people to help... Each tossing one piece. The job would've been done with minimum individual effort required. Still one-at-a-time. Every now and then we'd move a nice big piece(doctor/psychiatrist/polititian) that made a noticeable difference. But not forgetting the valuable little bits and grains, for these filled bucket loads..every individual out there that we help or convince is important.EVERY SINGLE ONE.Bucket loads that multiplied, as they in turn reached other grains etc, etc. These indiviual ones do indeed take up more energy and effort, but is too valuable to discard and ignore. Yes.. an effective, time saving, mechanical device(government) of some sorts would make a lot more sense ...but we don't have any of those do we? Anywhere? Time saving, mechanical equipment only seems to help DUMPING the loads at present... Of course sooner or later the next load(pill-of-the-day) will be dumped, and like Terry said, we'll have to start working all over again:-) As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.. Perhaps the dumb Plastc Paddy's will move somewhere where there is a barn with a higher, open roof, to facilitate trailer access, and direct dumping.. Or even better...perhaps one day, a better, more environmentally friendly, healthy option will become more popular. Won't that be great! No more shifting will be needed.. In the mean time, we can only dream and toss.. Steph -- In SSRI medications , and Terry Bearden <nandtbearden@...> wrote: > > Jim is so right.
