Guest guest
Dear Jasmine Good on you. Often sites lack objectivity and want everyone to say the same thing and worse than that if someone has an opinion that doesn't fit with the way the tide is going they won't allow it. People can be scared and won't share their opinion for fear of being mawled by the masses. I have to confess to having very strong opinions about things but I like to see and hear of opinions different to mine, stops me getting stuck in an insular way of thinking or maybe reinforces my own view dependant on what it is. Debate and questionning is healthy if not essential. So am 100% behind what you have done and think you are a bit of a star. Best wishes Mandy Petty Deletions, Et Cetera You guys would have been proud of me- I wrote a beautiful reply to the schizophrenia.com site's backers. It was quite a considered response to what they were saying, and I thought it sounded really good. I was watching and watching the site for a reply, but, silly me, I didn't keep a copy of it, which is sad, because it took a while to write. The site's moderators deleted the entire thread that it appeared in, lock, stock, and barrel, and also didn't reply. So I wrote them the following at the site, which will no doubt be removed, too. I basically said earlier that people diagnosed with schizophrenia are not children, and they can make their own decisions about medication and lack of it. I also said that I knew people who were on medication and doing well, but knew three people who are completely well individuals that didn't take any medicine. I mentioned Loren Mosher, as well as the successes despite a lack of medication in India. I told them that the original news that I posted about zyprexa was not a duplicate posting of the New York Times article, as they claimed, and that it should be allowed to stay on the site on those grounds. I can't believe that they just deleted everything again. Its so frustrating to think that when people google 'schizophrenia' the first thing that they are going to come up with is that site. only appear after a tremendous search. So that's what people are going to get. All of us on these groups have so much courage. I really appreciate all of the support when I posted my first message on this topic earlier. Thanks for being with me on this journey. My Note Below- its currently at the " Main Discussion Area " at schizophrenia.com: To the Moderator: I am so incredibly saddened that you would choose to delete my considered response to the first, original deletion of my post. It makes me surmise that what I had wrote must have been viewed as somehow threatening to you or to this site's financial backers in some way. I didn't think I would need to keep a copy of my note (as it was posted here on an open forum), and would really like it for personal reasons. So if you still have my words archived somewhere, could I please have them back? Background for others: I spent a great deal of time crafting my response in order to make it balanced and fair, and instead of an honest discussion (or answer) regarding my justification for the original posting, the moderator quickly removed it. I felt that this was disrespectful and very heavy handed.

Guest guest
Mandy, Thank you for your support. The reasons that you stated for being behind me are exactly my justification for having sent the letters and made the postings. The posts were not even dismissive of psychiatry and were fairly liberal on both sides. So it is rather a surprise that they were deleted without any comments. It is telling that the people who run the site are not consumers of the system; rather, they are well meaning family members. Even the best of intentions can be paternalistic and short sighted. This, then, is the tragedy of those held without due process everywhere. From Guantanamo to your local psych ward, these places of unrestrained power undermine us all, and turn our imagined democracies into fantasies that are waylaid by a morass of shifting quicksand. So, thank you again. I'd tell you to post to the site in support, but we all know what would happen to your response! Guest guest
Dear Jasmine It says something about the people who run the site that they would rather delete it than leave it there for people to read and think about, respond to or ignore (to make personal choices). In many ways it reflects how the psychiatric services and for that matter MH charities work. You can make choices as long as it is the choices other people want you to make. That is my view anyway. Maybe the people on the site need one view to hang on to. It is a bit like the search for the holy grail, if we are not careful we can end up getting lost and sold a rather duff version of it. I don't think there is a holy grail for recovery at all. One size doesn't fit all. I once said that I feel that using the psychiatric services has been like trying to find a pair of shoes that fit only to be given a pair that are too big or too small. And as much as I know of and respect those who care for others who are ill, I shared that responsiblity for my mum with my Dad and there is also an element of the 'co-caring' between Dad and me (we both have mental health problems)...no one knows an illness like the person who has it or how medications/treatments make them feel etc etc. Still the site in question serves purposes and for you, and your sharing of your experience of it here, it shows that that arena is maybe only for people with a set view. We live and learn and the good thing is that there are plenty of MH support and information sites to choose from and if there isn't something there already that suits us, we can set up our own. There is some democracy and freedom in that. Mandy Petty Deletions, Et Cetera > > You guys would have been proud of me- I wrote a beautiful reply to the > schizophrenia.com site's backers.
