The man remained in the apartment after the slayings, police believe, and may have been attempting to clean up evidence of the killings. Police spokesman Sgt. Jarrard Copeland said the decomposing bodies of Bridgette Barr, 28, and her daughter, Sydney Barr, 5, were found covered by a blanket on the floor in a bedroom, while the body of 2-year-old Garrett Barr was found in the bathtub of an adjoining bathroom. Police arrested , 30, and booked him into the Sebastian County jail on suspicion of three counts of capital murder. No charges were filed Tuesday; the Sebastian County Courthouse was closed for Christmas. and Barr had been dating for about two years, a police news release said. The children’s father, Ray Barr of Muldrow, Okla., had custody of them, but they were visiting their mother for Christmas. About 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call from ’s father, Randy of Van Buren, who was in Colorado. Randy asked police to check on his son after receiving a text message from him that made him believe his son might harm himself, Copeland said. Copeland said Tuesday that he couldn’t comment on the contents of that message. When police arrived at Apartment 6 of the Glenoaks Apartments at 8809 S. 28th St., met them at the door and said he was “ready to go,” the news release stated. was very calm, Copeland said. On a routine sweep of the apartment, officers found the bodies, and was arrested. “He made comments to officers, but I’m just not at liberty to say what he said,” Copeland said. Sebastian County Coroner A.J. Parish said the bodies of Bridgette Barr and Sydney were clothed but Garrett was nude. There was no water in the bathtub when he saw Garrett’s body, Parish said. Barr and her daughter were lying side by side on their backs with their heads facing each other, Copeland said. Because of the amount of decomposition, authorities have not been able to determine the cause of death. “I did not see any apparent wounds, so they all have been sent to the [state] medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death,” Parish said. The bodies were picked up about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said. Copeland ruled out gunshots as the causes of death. “There were what looked like scratches and cuts on them, but it’s hard to say what they were,” he said. Investigators also have not determined what weapon, if any, was used, Copeland said, although there were several objects in the apartment that could have been used as weapons. Copeland said remained in the apartment after the slayings, and police believe he may have tried to hide evidence of the killings. A bottle of Windex was found sitting out in the apartment, Copeland said, and there were places on the walls and carpeting that appeared to have been recently cleaned. Officers found small samples of blood in the apartment, Copeland said, but he would not specify where. The deaths take the total number of homicides in Fort this year to 12, the most since at least 1990, Copeland said. There were 11 homicides in the city in 2003, he said. Police have visited the apartment in the past; an officer responded to a domestic disturbance there on June 15. In that instance, Bridgette Barr told an officer that had been text messaging her all day, then showed up at the apartment about 11:15 p.m., a police report said. He banged on the door but she would not let him in, shouting through the door for him to leave.
