HI I am in Phoenix...born and raised in northern and central Ny state..would

not go to cold country now for nothing....I have lived out here since

72...and havent been east in winter since 78.....and then barely made it back

here after airports being closed for 5 days....I sympathisize with all of you

who have to put up with the cold and snow.....it bothers me when it rains

here and is cold like today,(I think it was 50 and 86%humidity).I know that

is nothing to what you get but for me it's cold and hurts......supposed to

have rain off and on through this weekend.....oh well....my Dad is in

Syracuse Ny and said in Email other day had 103 inches of snow so far this

yr....just sharing why I don't miss the east. Judy in AZ

Phoenix lol hey and guess what I also spent many years in upstate NY. Elmira.

Graduated from Southside High School there. Went to Corning Community College

in Corning. My ex sister in law is in Syracuse and lived there for a short

time when my kids were small. Small world!

I loved in Tucson from 1980 through 1983. I am sure it has changed alot

since then. My girlfriend moved there two years before me. She is still

there. Met a hometown guy, got married and has three kids. I left before

the birth of #1. Too lonesome after she found her guy. I also missed the

water and trees in Wisconsin as well as change of seasons (winter not

included). It was real different living there and I liked it for awhile. I

worked at the U of A for 8 physicists who were publishing all the time with

their grad students. Our students came from all over the world. Very

interesting group of people. I look back with great sentiment.

Do you inner tube the Salt River? Did that several times. What a hoot!!!

Dogs in inner tubs, stereos in inner tubs, food and drink in inner tubes.

One big floating party of thousands of people. How about that cliff where

people strip and jump into the water? Those were the days. No, I never

climbed the cliff and striped. I had big hooters back then too and a nice

bod. Fun fun fun in the Sun!!!!

My rheumie there was great, but she gave up her practice to do study on rats

at the u of a. Lupus of course lol. She is the one that got me a true dx put

me on the plaquenil and said within 3 mos you will be a whole new woman. lol

At the time I was practically bed ridden, could shop the malls or even the

grocery stores. I was a hermit. Low and behold 3 mos later bam! I felt great

lol i could walk and move and DRIVE!!! lol It was a miracle drug for me. I

worked as an office manager of a Dental Practice.

How do you like Phoenix? I remember visiting mesa and it seemed nice. Any

suggestions?

I lost my bod after I started prednisone. In Jan of 98 I was a hot bod! I

danced the night away! lol Miss that bod, but I am bound and determined to

get there now that I rid myself of that awful Prednisone that put 50 lbs in a

short time. darnit!

, Phoenix is a great place to live.....getting very crowded (my opinion)

but Arizona does have beautiful landscaping and weather. I would much rather

pay for AC than for heat...havent had heat on yet this year....run around in

shorts still most days....As for NY...yes it is a small world..but all my

family except for my kids pretty much all live there still...and those who

have left are near Pittsburgh.which is still too east for me......I need to

try and get back there this year once May or June comes around..havent been

home in almost 11 yrs...with FM and RA the idea of a 5-6hour plane ride

doesnt thrill me...at least not without lots of painkillers.....maybe I'll

spring for 1st class and get a more comfortable seat? Heck if I sit confined

now for morethan 20 min I usually ache in my hips and legs...anyway nice to

know someone else knows there's more to NY than the city. Judy in AZ

Jeanette, Glad you have pleasant memories of Tucson..it is very different

than Phoenix ....in many respects...but this state has grown so much in

population...makes me sad...a lot of desert is getting housing developments,

and government is starting to catch up in laws and all now...used to be you

could do a lot of things here and get away with it( like running around with

expired tags on cars for a few months and no one cared) ....now , well just

too many people. I have never gone down the Salt...my dtr has ...it is quite

the trip...they actually have buses now and tube rentals..so you can park

your car at bottom and take bus to different spots and come down when ready.

Yes , people still strip and jump off the cliffs ....and sadly a lot of them

do it drunk and drown (2-5 people every year).Tucson is growing too and yes

the Uof A is a wonderful teaching campus...most heart transplants and cancer

treatments are done there...lots of experimental studies for meds down in AZ

all the time..MOst of my Family Practice Drs are students from Uof A doing

residencies in Phx....and yes I miss the change of seasons too

sometimes...but in SYracuse there was 9months winter and 3 months summer

.....a humid summer at that...do not miss that. Judy in AZ

, That is one of reasons I refuse to take Predisone any more...I gained

20-40 lbs everytime I went on it...I swear breathing adds lbs.I would lose

some of it but never did lose enough.. I now have last 50-60 lbs cos of it.I

will use inhalers when asthma happens.....and use an SVN every 4 hrs...as for

RA , plaquenil and MTX have worked pretty well for me...I have flares when it

gets cold and damp like today...but nothing like I was at my worse. Mesa is

now 3rd largest city in AZ now...heard that other day on radio...again

everything is developing really fast....and there is no more AF Base

out there.......must go ..Judy inAZ

That's ok ......I have a good lovin hubby who takes care of that stuff

from time to time. I never did get to Phoenix, only Mesa. Not much

different I don't think. Mesa is like a burb to Phoenix isn't it?

I got tired of going to the doc every month after eating hardly anything

cause I was never hungry and then get on the scale for it to say I gained 5

more lbs. I went into the doc and said what the hey, I don't eat anything. He

said in a chuckle well that's prednisone for ya. Yeah Yeah very funny! lol

Breathing is a good word for the cause of it lol. I saved all my clothes pre

prednisone and I am bound and determined to get back down in them. I am

eating right, and I'm doing a new tape I got by Austin, it has 3 10min

workouts. One for arms and chest, one for tummies, and one for butt and

thighs. I try to do one a day depending on how I feel lolol. But it feels

good to do it. I mean I can feel it the next day but its nothing unbarable

and I know it's working. lol I am suddenly sweating ALOT that is a sign too!

My sweetie is big into weight training, he has big muscles lol ooooo, lol And

he runs. I have tried to do the walk around the track when he is running. It

was COLD! lol I guess I would do it more if he was in town more often. Oh

well. lol I'm trying to wait until I am back on my other meds full strength

now cause I'm starting to feel icky so I am waiting. But am still determined

to get myself back into shape. :) Thanks for the info on AZ too.
