Another my view on the situation. Kids today can't be allowed to go

outside and play like when I was a child. Most adults don't have time

nor energy to supervise real live child play. We either put them in an

extremely small area that we can see and tell them not to leave it or

force them to stay inside. We have trained them to entertain themselves

with TV and video games because we feel they are safter than if they

were outside somewhere roaming in the woods or riding bicycles all over

town. We want supervised activities that are for a too short period of

time and think they got some exercise so they should be ready to sit

still for several hours. We never give them a chance to really burn the

energy they need to burn. Summer vacations keep getting shorter and

shorter because we think kids need to be in school more in order to get

smarter. We except them to know more and more at earlier and earlier

ages. But this isn't making them any smarter. I dropped out of high

school after 10th grade. Fifteen years later, I went to college and was

on the President's list. I hear people who have PhD's on TV who don't

speak with proper grammer. Education doesn't make a person smart. If we

don't find a way soon to let kids be kids safely and quit trying to

mold them into Stepford children, there's not going to be an undrugged

child left.

I have to emphatically agree with every single observation that you

make here. Children are no longer allowed to be kids. Just plain

kids. My son went to the same high school(for the short time he was

there) that I did. I was shocked at the attitude in the school

compared to when I had attended. This wasn't all about security!

Whenever they walked down they had to sign a paper.. in case anything

happened in the school they had a list of who was in the hall at the

time. Talk about guilty until proven innocent. There is NO tolerance

for normal high school shenanigans.. that we ALL did! Children need

time to be stupid, silly, to explore ... instead we try and put them

all in a nice little college bound package and wonder why they

explode.
