Guest guest
Thanks for the info e and everyone. I've been feeling a little better the last day or two, but not back to normal, well "my normal". I think you're probably right it's just going to take a while for my body to rebound from it. -Shirl-
Guest guest
It sounds like you probably had propofol. That is a very rapid, short acting anesthetic. It works in about 1 minute, and when it's stopped, consciousness is usually regained in about 1-2 " . It is also used in the ICU for pts who need to be in a drug induced coma, and/or those who are belligerent/combative/confused/uncooperative. It is a wonderful drug. We love it in ICU because it works so well to produce unconsciousness. Anyway, getting back to anesthetic agents, a combination of drugs is usually always used. Versed is almost always given preop to calm and sedate, then a combination of propofol, narcotics, and anesthetic gases are used to induce anesthesia. Fentanyl is the narcotic of choice, at least where I've worked, and then nitrous is usually the gas used to induce, along with prop, and sevoflurane is typically the constant agent, or the agent used to maintain anesthesia. Also, a paralyzer is used so that you can be intubated. This is given after induction so that you don't feel the paralytic affect. Rocuronium, vecuronium, and cisatricurium are the agents most commonly used for this. It is very possible that you had a mild allergic reaction to one of the agents. Or one of them interacted with some meds you are on, although if you told the anesthesiologist everything you were on, he/she should have been alert for any potential interactions. It is possible for some supplements to interact with anesthetic agents. It could also be that if you were feeling " yucky " before this, that having anesthesia just made you feel more yucky and it may be that it will take a while for your body to rebound. Anytime you undergo anesthesia, it is very hard on your body, so keep that in mind. This is true even for healthy individuals. e > I'm not sure what kind is was but I was out cold.
