I ended up in the ER one night with a severe muscle spasm that put me in a great deal of pain. The ER doc prescribed me a round of preisone?(steroid)and told me that doctors are now treating back pain with steroids because of the inflammation in that area. The steroids helped me enough to allow me to go off the Lyrica, but docs are relucant to use them because they can have a dangerous effect on our immune system. In large or prolonged doses, steroids will weaken the immune system that leaves humans open to bacterial and viral infections so there is great care that has to be taken when a doc prescribes them. It may be difficult to get your doc to try some it see if it will help by going off and on them for safety reason. Hope this will help some. Another good medicine I have tried that really cut down on the pain is Cymblatam? I started with the 30mg dose and went up to the 60mg dose but that too strong for by body. It interfered with my sleep and it made me grip my theeth so hard that my jaws were very sore. When I go back to the doc, I am going to ask him to let me try the 20mg dose to see if it will help and not keep me from sleeping. Talk to your doc about this.
