A ND or similar has posted on another list about this, cautioning against taking

high amounts of vit D only. It must be balanced with vit A to prevent Vit D

toxicity and Vit A deficiency. Proper ratio is 10:1 Vit A:Vit D. As one who has

only been skimming many Vit D posts and not necessarily reading the links, if

this was mentioned already I had missed it. He still recommends good old Cod

Liver OIl as the esiest and safest way to get both of these in proper ratio.

I've been very interested in learning more about good sources of

vitamin D because for years, I've read and been cautioned that D is

preserved with formaldehyde.

I'd love some input on this - D is an unstable vitamin - how are

conscientious manufacturers making it? What sources are they using to

derive it? How are they keeping it stable?

there is a lot of new information on Vitamin D and the need for much

higher amounts. Amounts at end of email

Should really be tested if taking for a while

If it is very sunny, don't need to supplement ............that's why we

see less illness in the summer (and large amount of body exposed to the

sun)

Dr Eisenstein's Daily Minimum Recommendation for

Vitamin D

Based on the Latest Scientific Findings

1. Pregnant and nursing mothers- 6,000IU

2. Newborn breastfed- from their mothers

3. Newborn bottle fed- 1,000IU

4. Children 2000IU

5. Adults 2000IU

6. Chronic Illness 5000IU

7. Respiratory infection 50,000IU for three to seven days

8. Blood levels should be in the range of 50ng/ml

9. Blood levels for chronic conditions 80-100ng/ml

10. 20 minutes in midday sun with 40% exposure will give you about

5-10,000IU

11. If no sun use Vitamin D3 supplements

The 25(OH)D blood test can determine your levels

100IU of Vitamin D will raise your blood levels approximately 1ng/ml

20 minutes in midday sun with 40% exposure will give you

about 5-10,000IU
