Guest guest
Today, I attended a meeting with NY Senator Duane's chief of staff. We discussed the Senator sponsoring the three vaccination choice bills. As I listened to his chief of staff, it became very clear to me that for legislators to act they must hear from their constituents. She mentioned how the Senator receives so many letters, emails etc from people outside of the state that it drowns out his own constituents. Legislators want to hear from the people they represent. I have met with several legislators and they all have said the same thing to me, including Governor Paterson's special assistant: " Your local elected official is your front line to changing laws. " Is it possible to send out an email urging New Yorkers to contact their local legislators and tell them they want vaccination choice? Maybe have each chapter leader from Holistic Moms Network possibly meet with their local legislators and have constituents write, email, call, fax, whatever they have to do to let them know they are not going anywhere until vaccination choice bills get passed into law. I am learning that a Manhattan assemblymember doesn't want to hear from a Mom from West Nyack, but from someone in their own backyard. Continue to let your local legislator know you have a voice and will not go away until there is change. We must remind our elected officials that we live in a Democracy!
