Guest guest
H all, Am still recuperating from gallbladder surgery, because I had to have an incision and had complications, my surgeon said I still have a couple months before all is healed. Fortunately, even though I spent 16 days in the hospital flat on my back, it didn't do any further damage to my spine, other than cause additional pain. Still can't get enough sleep as I can't roll over to my side yet. This is the longest I've ever had to take to heal. I guess I'm not as young as I used to be. I even have so-called friends telling me I'm taking too long to heal, and should be up and about more, and able to do more, because they had the same thing, and it didn't take them this long to heal. That really makes me upset, all of us have different bodies, different amounts of pain we can tolerate, and then you have to factor in complications. I'm not able to afford a home nurse, my insurance has a very high co-pay, so it's all up to my husband to take care of me-and I'm not just lying around on the sofa all day. Thanks for leting me vent, I'm just hurt that people I'm close to have come up with all those remarks that I'm not doing enough to heal as fast as they think I should. It's been about 6 weeks since I had my neck epidural, and now I'm able to twist my neck like a normal person. Finally I " ve had a procedure that actually is working !! My lawyer said we should be able to wrap up the lawsuit now, since it doesn't look like I'll need another neck fusion. I'm happy about that. Now if I could only get some sleep... I just wanted to update you on my situation. My grandma is doing a little better- she doesn't stay nauseated as much as she was for a while. I've been working to make sure she eats often, and stuff that's good for her, and that seems to be helping. I also try to make sure she gets at least three doses of carafate a day. We finally got an appointment with a new gastroenterologist- we see him Friday. Hopefully, this guy will have some more information for us. I really think, though, that part of the nausea is caused by anxiety and not eating right, because things seem worse when either of those things happen. And, unfortunately for her, she stays nervous a lot...she worries about everything. I want her to see a psychiatrist about it (her general physician recommended that) because I really think she has anxiety disorder and depression. She's agreed to go to a visit or two, but she doesn't want to go on a daily or weekly basis, and the idea of going to group sessions or a stay in the hospital is totally out of the question. So,I'm gonna try to get her in to see him soon, and hope for the best as far as what she needs. Maybe if we're lucky she'll only need to go a few times, and maybe have her lexapro dosage adjusted and then just go in for checkups from time to time. However, this anxiety problem affects her ability to deal with noise, especially large groups. So, this is presenting a problem for the holidays. We have a large family- there are 30 of us, and 11 of those are under 10. Needless to say, family gatherings get noisy, even if no one is being overly loud. So, I am trying to work out a way that everyone still gets to see my grandma, but she won't be so stressed by it. I thought of the idea of just asking them politely to try to not all come at one time..not really a schedule, but for them to just spread themselves out through the day. It shouldn't be too hard, each family could come maybe after they've gone to another relative's house first. I don't think that's asking too much.. I wouldn't mind some input or suggestions on this. My mom and one of my aunts thinks it's a good idea. My grandma is even agreeable, as long as nobody's feelings get hurt. And I think since everyone knows she's sick, it shouldn't offend anyone. I am not really looking forward to the holidays at this point though. Not because of this, but because the holidays just aren't as much fun as they were before the last couple of years. For one thing, I don't have as much money to shop with- at the moment I am unemployed and depending on my parents for support. Nothing quite like using your mom's money to buy her a christmas present with to make you feel bad. And, along with this, I just get really lonely this time of year- even though I have a large family, I am not really close to most of them. In fact, there's only one young woman that I consider a friend. One of my cousins is 21 and she and I spent a lot of time together when she was growing up, and even now we still spend as much time together as possible. But, she's been married almost a year now and is settling into a new home and a new job, as well as having a husband, so her life is different now. And, aside from her, my mom is the only person I really call a friend- my mom and I are very close, and I do confide in her a lot. But I don't want to burden her; she's just as worried about my grandma as I am, and she has other stresses in her life too. Besides, I would like to be able to make friends with someone close to my own age, that maybe I have some common interests with. I haven't had a close friend like that since high school. With a little luck, if things work out the way I'm hoping they will, the financial part of my situation may change soon. Through a program my aunt recently found out about,I may be able to be paid as my grandma's caregiver. I won't go into all the details here, because it's a lot to type and I don't have all the information in front of me anyway. But, I am excited about it- it will be nice to have a source of income once again (I've been out of work for nearly 2 years) and I can pay my mom back if she'll take my money. If not, at least I won't be feeling so bad about her paying for everything all the time. Another good thing is I can finally see a doctor myself for some problems I have. I have never mentioned it on here, because I have not been diagnosed, but I believe I have PCOS. I meet all the typical symptoms, so I would not be surprised. But it would be nice to know for sure, and to get treated for it. Thanks for listening.
