Hello group! Hope everyone is doing well. I found out I had Hep C type 1a just 4

years ago and probably have had it for 20 years or more. I'm not one to " wait

and see " but did weigh my options carefully before deciding on treatment. I

wanted to post to the group that all is not doom and gloom. After 11 months of

Interferon and ribavirin I was fortunate to " clear " successfully. However it was

a very bumpy ride! The side effects were a bitch and I was very lucky to have

great support from my family. I continued working during treatment but how I

managed that I still don't know. I guess I just felt that if I didn't I was

letting the dragon win. Now 2+ years after treatment I'm feeling as good as I

ever have. Except for a little eczema that started during treatment all the side

effects are gone – no more nausea, fatigue, foggy head, depression etc.. Before

treatment I was running half marathons, 5K's and doing various traithlons from

sprints to half ironmans. Finally, I'm back in the game and so far this year

have done 3 triathlons.

My advice: be a student of this disease. Learn as much as you can about it.

Fight the beast. As hard as it may be - try to have a positive outlook. Walk

daily – I raised a puppy during treatment and would walk her every day for as

little as 5 minutes and sometimes as much as a hour. I really believe the

walking helped me maintain a positive attitude.

Slay the Dragon!
