Guest guest Posted May 21, 2000 Report Share Posted May 21, 2000 Hi Joan, Thanks for the advice, I will see the orthopedic who did a great job on my tennis elbow years ago, and if he recommends surgery I will go for it. I do seem to recall a story I heard awhile back about a physician with CTS, who had the condition operated on 5 times before he realized he had LD. So that leads me to believe that when one has LD surgery will not cure this condition. I am so sorry to hear Molly is so sick, and I will pray that it is only something bad that she ate, I had a beagle once who ate rat poison, it was awful but she did rally after an antidote was given. The worse one is the right, but the left can act up too. EMG studies last year showed CTS in both hands, and recommendation was made for splints by my neurologist. I just put it off like everything else, I am queen of procrastinators I guess. Best to go to the orthopedic I guess, maybe he will give me one cortisone shot in the right one for relief, I don't think that will be too awful for my Lyme disease. I do take 1800mg of Neurontin daily now for nerve pain and maybe I need to raise the dose, I think maximum is 2700mg. Guest guest Posted May 21, 2000 Report Share Posted May 21, 2000 Morning Ya'll, I have CTS in left hand, most like in right also but that side has not been tested yet. I also have damage at c5-6-7, guess it IS a lyme thing. I have the understanding that when the Surgeon 'fixes' me, he will use titanium discs and not my hip bone or donor bone, but I have not seen him yet this is just what my LLMD and I talked about. I also have, at times, excruciating pain in my shoulder blades, always put that off as working to much and too hard, but that was before my LD dx. I attribute my CTS in left hand to Lyme, I am right handed and really only type (rarely before LD) with left hand. Someone sent me a whole bunch of links about the neck surgury a while back, but i had a puter crash and have lost it all, (whoever sent it, i would love for you to resend ) Have a great day! Guest guest Posted May 21, 2000 Report Share Posted May 21, 2000 hi...i wanted to input into the concerns of CTS.....before i knew i had lyme disease... 4+ years...undiagnosed.....i worked in the movie industry in animation as a digital artist... over time i became debiltitated little by little til i had to stop work entirely. Thought i had RSI, CTD, CTS...bulding herniated dics....c5,6,7 and 4 lumbar disc...tentedititis, bursitis...on and on....NOW I KNOW THE SYMPTOMS WERE 'CAUSED' BY LYME " .... i ran from the orthopeditist who wanted to remove 8 discs... " i don't think so, doc " ....my problems are not mechanical in origin...though i presented moto-retardation...a term use to discribe me in my psychiatric MD reports... and in regards to CTS..carpel tunnel syndrome.....my stupid 'rheumy' gave me corstisone shots into the carpel tunnel....some relief was obtained.... but my hands and wrists hurt soo bad after ANY repeitive anything....that i at the tiem did'nut understand....my hands and wrists swelled , hurt like a mother and i couln't even use them for a couple of months...thus with my recent Jan 2000 lyme diagnoses...IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.... my hands/wrists were going thru a special effect of warping and morphing eventually into 'lyme arthritis " ...yep this is waht was really going on....arthritis.... swoolen knukeles 'obviuoly' show it...and the rheuamtoid arthritis blood was NEG.... this stuff is lyme doing the damage.... i thank GOD...i never got 'mechcanical' surgical FIXES...when the underlying cause is lyme...i believe this is why many surgeries are not successful...if one does 'surgery' and doesn't get rid of the lyme...it would only logically continue..... i am not saying that mechanical damage does not occur....or happen....but i would surely try to get rid of the lyme and infection that is causing this ....before any surgeries.... cheryl in L.A. Guest guest Posted May 21, 2000 Report Share Posted May 21, 2000 in regards to CTS and 'wrist' splint(wrist guard with a hard splint).....TRUE FIT...made of polyurithen and velcro...kinda like wetsuit material..you can buy them at the drug store in the aisle where knees guards...back braces and WRIST GUARDS...$15 for each a right hand and left..$30+ total....very comfortable and effective..... when i was unable to use my hands at all for a couple months...i wore these daily and slept with them on for 3 weeks minimum....it helped tremendiuosly with NO surgery....at all...... cheryl Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just be careful when buying the magnets..I know there are a lot of cheap imitation ones out there, that you may as well use for refrigerator maganets! The original ones were Nikken..quite expensive though in comparison to others but I have seen demonstrations of how they work & know people that had great success with them. There are other brands that must be good also, I just don't know how you would know. Our local golf shop also sells a particular brand...I would think they must come with some guarantee of satisfaction. Good luck...I hope you can find some relief between them & the splints. But, they don't have any government epidemiological studies to prove the safety of these surgeries for breast cancer patients, or anyone else. Now the plastic surgeons are working in the field of Oncology, even though they have no credentials to do so, and they are telling us that plastic surgery is natural and a cancer treatment! They don't tell you that this reconstruction stresses an already overtaxed immune system, or that reconstruction can spread cancer cells to other parts of a woman's body, or that reconstruction can delay adjuvant therapy. Plastic Surgeons don't care about any government safety studies that should have been done before these surgeries were made available for all women. They are oncologists, and they don't care if your immune system is overtaxed and you get sick and become disabled. They care about getting their insurance money. If there are any plastic surgeons that DO CARE, why aren't they out campaigning for laws that bring "informed consent"? Why aren't they started a new organization of Plastic Surgeons which are ethical? We must educate our sisters and the public about the complications of these disabling surgeries which are lies--these surgeries do not produce the beautiful breast that plastic surgeons lead us to believe.
